New Student Online Enrollment
By Marc Medwed and John Roch, ACPE Staff

ACPE is well on its way to having a new Student Unit Database. It will be a
wonderful upgrade with many new features for searching units, seeing past and current enrollments, and will enable us to keep better track of the many units of CPE that are registered each year.

Starting September 1, 2015, all students will need to enroll online on the ACPE website for their fall units. Once your student has been accepted into a CPE program or residency, it is time to enroll for their unit. We encourage you to complete the online enrollment process with your students during their orientation. Below are instructions to help guide your students through the enrollment process.

Moving to the Next Level

By David C. Johnson, ACPE President
David Johnson 2x3

In sports the goal is to move to the next level in competition. How well you are doing is marked by what level you are able to compete. I have been reflecting on where ACPE is and how to move our organization to the next level. In the presidential speech I delivered at our national meeting in May, I lifted up what I believe is needed to succeed at this task. If we are to move to the next level of professionalism and organizational life we must do so by standing upon the platforms of accountability, consistency, relevance and sustainability. This cannot be an ACPE Board, Commission or Committee driven project. This project needs the buy in of the membership. One way we are attempting to give each member a voice is the creation of the ACPE Exchange and the "Envisioning ACPE's Future" series. If you have not visited the Exchange, I encourage you to do so. I hope you will also take the time to listen to my presidential speech to gain further understanding of why moving to the next level is so crucial to ACPE's future.

ACPExchange* is an online community where ACPE members can engagecolleagues in ways that build the work of the association in service to its members. To access ACPExchange, visit the ACPE website. Hover your mouse on My ACPE on the main navigation bar, select My Communities from the dropdown menu. You will be prompted for your credentials if you are not already logged-in. Select ACPExchange from the list of available communities. If you need assistance logging-in, please call the national office at (404) 320-1472.
Time for Beginnings and New Commitments
By Ute Schmidt, 2015 Annual Campaign Chair
Ute Schmidt

September is the month for beginnings and new commitments. New residents arrive in many of our centers, preparations for fall units begin to take shape and we are looking forward to reconnecting with our colleagues and friends in ACPE at our regional meetings. In the spirit of new beginnings and commitments, we ask you to tap into your competitive self on behalf of ACPE. Never been competitive? Well, now is the time to try something new for yourself and the ACPE! The regional champions invite you to join in a "Friendly Giving Competition" among the regions. The competition ends on December 31, 2015 and the region with the highest percentage of donors in 2015 will be the ultimate winner. You will hear more about the friendly competition at your regional meeting, and yes, there will be something special for the winning region!

In addition to our "Friendly Giving Competition" this fall will offer plenty of other opportunities to support the Holy Work of ACPE. We will feature a series of "Gratitude Stories" from our members and students whose lives and careers have been transformed by CPE. On Tuesday, December 1 we will join other nonprofit organizations on the national day of giving by participating in "Giving Tuesday to benefit ACPE." Our goal is to raise $5,000 for student scholarships to the 2016 ACPE Annual Conference in Denver, Colorado. By doing so, we hope to foster the next generation of thoughtful, spiritual care practitioners.

Please join me in tapping into your spirit of generosity and gratitude and participate in the Annual Campaign. Donate today!

This fall there is a rare opportunity to learn with and from our international spiritual care colleagues. For only the second time in its history, the International Congress will meet in the USA. The International Congress is comprised of national spiritual care, counseling and education associations as well as educators and practitioners from around the globe. It works to bring together diverse religious traditions, styles of spiritual care practice and cultural understandings that broaden the thinking and work of spiritual care workers everywhere. Tell Us Why It Matters!
talking-points
When you complete your summer units, we would love to hear from students about their CPE experiences. What will stay with you? What is one important memory, story or encounter that will continue to shape your sense of vocation? Let us know! Send up to 500 words to John Roch. We will post the stories in our "members only" section of our website. We also hope to share portions of stories in our efforts to build the association. Please submit all stories by September 20.

If you're a student, a candidate or an SES, we would love to hear from you! If you're a supervisor, please invite your students to share their experience!
2016 Manuals are Coming Soon
This was originally published in the April 2015 Newsletter
By Marc Medwed, ACPE Program Manager

We are in a three phase process for updating ACPE Standards and manuals:
  • Interim revisions to the 2010 manuals are on the  ACPE website now and in effect through December 31, 2015;
  • 2016 manuals - will be published September 15, 2015 and go into effect January 1, 2016;
  • Revisions related to work of Certification task forces when work completed, presented to the Board and members, with ample time for review and implementation.
We would like to extend a big thank you to Jerry Williamson for her continued work on our manual revision process. The Interim revisions to the 2010 manuals are now posted on our website.  These interim revisions to the 2010 manuals include clarifications of various policies and procedures as well as an update to the Certification Manual highlighting the shift in policy adopted by the Board of Representatives related to becoming an ACPE Supervisor.  Please note that substantive changes are highlighted in yellow throughout the text. These manuals will be in effect for the remainder of 2015.
