The summer months can be hectic and stressful for managers in our industry. Here are a few tips to help you manage for less stress and more success.

  1. Feeling overwhelmed by many small questions and requests from your crews? Remind them of the difference between important and urgent items and those that can wait until a weekly meeting.  Use a weekly meeting to recap issues that can wait.
  2. Frazzled by too many estimates to complete? Do more up front to separate "tire kickers" from real buyers. Say "no" where appropriate.
  3. Feeling a need to always be the "fixer"? If you're a manager, resist the urge to get "hands on" all of the time. Require team members to take leadership to come up with solutions and fix problems. Good question to ask: "what do you think should be done?"   Andrew Carnegie said "No man will be a great leader if he insists on doing it all himself".
  4. Finding the details get lost as crews rush to finish jobs?  Job sites will be cleaner, fewer tools will be lost and paperwork will be done on-time if you create checklists for those repetitive tasks. Everyone should be doing it the right way, right?

Remember we are here to help you reduce the hassles of the busy season. We're committed to your success.   Please let us know how we can help YOU.

How You Can Get Involved in Smart Irrigation Month

Water use peaks during hotter weather.  That's why July was selected for Smart Irrigation Month.  Now is the perfect time to start marketing irrigation upgrades to your customers.

The Irrigation Association's Smart Irrigation Month campaign is an industry-wide initiative to help consumers understand the importance of water savings and to connect them with professionals who can upgrade older, inefficient systems with the latest technology.

What are the best ways to market water-efficient products to your customers?

Customers will buy when the benefits of water-saving upgrades are clearly explained to them.   You must invest in promotion and education to create awareness.

  • Send postcards to current customers promoting upgrades like moisture sensors, upgraded nozzles and smart controllers.
  • Include promotional stuffers with your monthly statements.
  • Leave smart watering door hangers with customers as part of their regular yard care and fertilization routes. These door hangers provide recommended hot-weather watering schedules and related water-saving products.

Thunderclap is a platform that allows organizations to promote a specific cause and increase its social reach through Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr. Individuals who join the IA Thunderclap campaign donate their social media accounts to send out the same message at the same time as their fellow supporters.   Click here to participate

Carry a Precision Soil Sensor to Offer Customers Fast Upgrades to Smarter Control
Be sure your technicians are recommending water-smart upgrades

Most timer-based irrigation controllers can waste water because they don't match the water applied to actual moisture levels in the soil

With the Toro Precision Soil Sensor, you can offer customers an easy add-on device that reduces water waste by continuously measuring moisture levels in the soil and determining when to allow the controller to water.  It can maximize the efficiency of any system, because it works with ANY standard controller.

Because the soil sensor features wireless communication, there's no digging to get it installed.  Simply connect the receiver next to the controller and place the probe in the yard.   The unit self-calibrates to the site's soil conditions.

You can easily add $100-$150 in easy profit to residential service calls by offering this handy device.  Ask your CPS representative for full details on how to get started.

Sales Tip:  Take along a Precision Soil Sensor

Having one on the truck is the easiest way to make a sale.
