Fort Carson Wins Water Conservation Award Thanks to WeatherTrak Control System

WeatherTrak helped Fort Carson achieve winning results with their water management goals.   The installation won special recognition at the 2014 Annual Secretary of the Army Energy and Water Management Awards presented during a ceremony in the Pentagon.

One of the measures to achieve Net Zero efficiency and increased water savings came from the installation of a WeatherTrak Control System.

The WeatherTrak system ensured the 30 percent summer water reductions were met.  When operating under normal conditions, the system is anticipated to save the installation more than 50 million gallons per year in irrigation water.

FEBCO Makes It Easy to Find Backflow Parts

It can sometimes be difficult for you to know exactly what parts you need, or to know if the key parts will be in the kit that you order.

FEBCO makes it easier to find parts for their full line of backflows.

Start at their website www.febcoonline.com.  Select "Products".

Scroll down to the product category you want, for example, "Reduced Pressure Zone Assemblies", or "Vacuum Breakers", then click.

Scrolling you see all the models pictured that FEBCO makes, click or choose the one you need to repair.

In the middle of the page to the right, go to "Find a Repair Kit for this Product"

Choose the correct size drop down (size can easily be identified by looking on the size of the ball valves to the assembly)

To the right, scroll down to the type of KIT you think you need.

Now it will pop up the part# and then click on the camera, and it will show you what is in that KIT

New Video Series from NDS Helps You Calculate Drainage Requirements & Solve Common Problems

NDS provides contractors with the most informative tools in the drainage industry

NDS has created a video series that has been designed to take the contractor through three crucial steps to fix drainage problems:

  • Identify current or potential drainage problems
  • Calculate how much runoff water you need to plan for
  • How to identify and properly size a solution that will work for you.

In an upcoming six-part series, the NDS resident civil engineer, Dr. Drainage, walks you through how to calculate runoff, store runoff, size your catch basin and determine what drain pipe to use. Click here to see the full series on YouTube.

In addition to these videos, NDS has created a series of online calculators that make it easy for contractors to plug in information from their jobsite and it helps you calculate drainage for your dry well, French drain, and drain pipe.

Selecting the Right Valve Box
Pay attention to the rated load capability to avoid problems in the future

When selecting a valve box, first determine the required load-bearing capabilityInstalling the proper type of valve box helps reduce costly maintenance issues and system down-time due to failures in the field

As people and vehicles move through an outdoor space, they may travel across a valve box rather than solid ground.  The unit must be able to support these expected vertical loads based on the installation location, ensuring the box retains its integrity without collapsing on its contents.

Oldcastle Enclosure Solutions is the industry expert in matching the right enclosure for the application.  Our bodies and lids are rated for performance to help you match Oldcastle® brands with your project application.

For additional assistance selecting the right valve box for your installation, download the Oldcastle Irrigation Market Brochure.
