Backflow Devices Go "Lead-Free"
| |
Backflow devices have gone green.
The Federal Reduction of Lead in Drinking Water Act took effect January 4, 2014, requiring that any valve, fitting, or fixture coming in contact with potable water must have a weighted average lead content of less than 0.25%.
Backflow manufacturers began the transition to lead free during 2013, easing into the mandate.
How do you know you are installing lead free backflow products?
Green handles are Wilkins official designation for lead free backflow devices, as well as the letters "XL" after the model number.
Note: Most lawn sprinkler system applications do not require a lead-free device so check your local codes for requirements.

Irrigation Industry Product of the Year: Toro's New Evolution Controller
| |
For the third straight year in a row, Toro has won the Irrigation Association's New Product Contest in the Turf/Landscape category.
Toro's new EVOLUTION controller has been well received by contractors around the United States. A modular controller up to 16 zones, the EVOLUTION controller's faceplate has shortcut buttons for basic programming functions, while the advanced menu leverages the experience of contractors. Probably the most amazing feature of the EVOLUTION controller is the free download software, available at www.toro.com/evolution. Contractors or homeowners click on representative photos of zones - which include plant type, sun exposure, slope, soil type and sprinkler type, providing an advanced, customized schedule for every zone. Once programming is completed on the PC, it is then transferred from a USB drive and uploaded into the controller in a matter of seconds. Other features include landscape grow-in scheduling, as well as Smart Connect™, which allows the controller to wirelessly connect with a wireless ET sensor, handheld remote, Toro Precision Soil Sensor or wireless rain/freeze sensor - without mounting sensor receivers next to the controller. |
