Dear Mark Twain Parents and Families,

I just love the Father-Daughter Dance tradition at Mark Twain! I want to give a HUGE thank you to the Dad's Club President, Kevin Noland, for organizing such a great community event and time for fathers and daughters to build good relationships and have FUN!

Volunteers are the backbone of any organization and I can truly say that the PTO has the BEST volunteers ever! I am constantly amazed at the talent and skills you all bring to the school and how you selflessly donate your time and energy to the benefit of our children. All volunteers are invited to a special volunteer, or "VIPS", breakfast on Friday, May 15 at 8:15 am in the library. We want to honor you! Please RSVP to jisgur@houstonisd.org.

Remember to order your school supplies for next year. You

can purchase supplies online or bring your order form to the PTO workroom. Please click here to place online orders. Please see the school supply article below for more information.

The last PTO meeting of the school year will be Wednesday, May 13 in the cafeteria at 8:15 am. Ms. Patin will give a brief preview of things to come. Hope to see all there.

Enjoy the beautiful week. Blessings to you all!

Twain Triathlon - Thank You!

We would like to thank everyone who came out to participate in the 2nd annual Twain Triathlon! It was a beautiful day for racing and the smiles on the kids faces said it all.

A BIG thank you to all parents, school staff, and community members who volunteered their time to make this event not only possible, but successful. Although this race is all about taking risks and having fun, we do want to thank all of you who helped to raise sponsorship money to support Mark Twain Elementary and we would also like to recognize our top finishers. Below are the top boy and girl finishers from Twain by grade level:

Nurse's Notes: End of Year Tasks

Thank you for your responsiveness while I care for your children at school. It makes my job easier when I can rely on you to provide information and follow up with medical interventions as needed. Thank you also for the door decorations and gifts during teacher appreciation week.

Next, I have particular requests to assist with cleaning up the Nurse's Office and preparing for next year:

If your child has an "as needed" medication (inhaler, EpiPen) in the clinic, medication pick-up will be during school hours from May 18-27. If your child takes a scheduled medication please pick it up on May 27, at that time we can discuss if you want your child to receive the medication on the last day of school.   If you do not pick up the medication by May 27, it will be disposed of appropriately. If you cannot pick up the medication yourself you will need to call me during school hours to make an alternate arrangement. I will not be available after school on May 28. I will not be available on May 29.

If your child will require medication next year please download and complete a Medication Order, Asthma Action Plan or Food Allergy Action Plan as appropriate for next year. The forms can be found also on the HISD website, in the front office or through my office. The HISD policy requires a new order for every new school year. The medications, even the over-the-counter medications, will require a prescription label that matches the Doctor's order.

Incontinence is an ongoing problem. If your child has used my underwear or clothes throughout the year please  wash and return the loaner clothes to the clinic. Those items have been generously donated for all of our students to utilize. If you are unable to find borrowed items, please donate some clean, gently used pants, shorts, leggings or skirts that no longer fit your child. The next time you go underwear shopping for your child please buy a package for the clinic. I do not need any shirts. For those students that I see frequently for incontinence, parents please consider consulting your pediatrician regarding this issue during the summer. Keep in mind that your child will need a seasonally appropriate change of clothes in their school bag daily throughout the next school year.

Thank you for your time and attention to these matters,

Andrea T. Hill, RN

School Nurse
