Dear Parents,

 

Last week we welcomed hundreds of parents to Open House. Classroom teachers shared expectations and procedures specific to each class. If you didn't attend, please ask your child's teacher for  information that was shared.

 

On Friday, September 19 there will be a meeting at 8:15 am in the cafeteria to discuss possible changes to our Gifted and Talented program.    

 

To promote healthy eating habits, every Friday of the school year will be fresh fruit Friday.  Please send your child with a snack of fruits or vegetables to enjoy in class.  

 

HISD wants all parents to understand the importance of attendance. Missing more than 10 percent (17 days) of school a year can lead to a student not receiving a grade or being retained. Attendance also affects a school's budget.  When students miss class, their campus' average daily attendance rate drops, which can reduce the funding it receives to support its programs. Odyssey World Finals

Odyssey of the Mind (OM) is an international program that provides creative problem-solving opportunities for students in all grades. Our team members solve problems that range from building mechanical devices to presenting an interpretation of a literary classic. They then bring their solutions to competition on the local, state, and world level. Learn more or email Tonya Crombie.

To participate in Odyssey of the Mind, submit this form by Friday, October 3.

Coaching is Key
We can only have OM teams at Mark Twain if we have OM coaches. If interested, please attend the coaches training session on Saturday, October 18 at Spring Woods HS 2045 Gessner, Houston, 77080. Registration is at 7:30 am and the session is 8:00 am to noon. For more information, email Iris Story.

Marathon Kids is Back!  

 
Marathon Kids is a free program that challenges children to run/walk at least 26.2 miles over six months, in quarter or half mile increments. Children can track their progress on a mileage and food intake log, while earning free rewards along the way.

 

Only the first 75 registration forms will be accepted. Download a registration form here.  Return your completed registration form to Coach Jody's mailbox in the office as soon as possible.  Please include an email address on the registration form.
