Dear Parents,

All Twain students are safe, but an evacuation of the Twain Elementary School building did occur this morning.

At 8 AM this morning, an air conditioning sensor at Mark Twain Elementary burned out in a classroom.  Children were safely evacuated and the fire department arrived to investigate.

Twain Tigers were moved to Pershing Middle School and will stay there until further notice.  Children have had lunch at Pershing.  The field trips that were scheduled today were cancelled.  All Twain students are either in the Pershing gym or auditorium.

As instruction materials and equipment are not available to the teachers, movies are being used to keep children occupied.  We anticipate that children will be moved back to Mark Twain later this afternoon, but there is no firm estimate on timing.

Tables have been set up in the Pershing lobby if you opt to pick-up your child early.  The Pershing lobby can be accessed from Blue Bonnet Blvd, from the YMCA side of Pershing.

I do not believe that you are able to contact Twain staff via telephones as no one is being allowed to work in the building.

I believe all backpacks and other personal items are not accessible and will remain there until people are cleared to enter the Twain building.

I do not have any additional information, but if you want to ask questions email twaintimes10@yahoo.com and I will try to get an answer for you.  Thank you, Rita Lee, Communications Director
