Friends & Family Donors

The 2013 Friends & Family Campaign was a success.  A huge "Thank You" to everyone that joined the PTO and made a contribution to the campaign.  We are finalizing the School Directory and the recognition of our donors will be there and on our website.  I will be in the rotunda Wednesday morning at 7:30 AM before the October PTO and All Parent Meeting to deliver the yard signs, magnets, etc for each donation level.  The stadium chairs are on order and should arrive in time for the Sponsor Breakfast.  Our Mark Twain level donors will receive an engraved brick and those are scheduled to be engraved on October 30th for both 2012 & 2013.  Please remember that everyone that made a minimum of a $10 contribution to the F&F Campaign will receive a FREE School Directory when they arrive at the end of the month.

If you need additional information, contact Dawn Koenig at

PTO PRESIDENT'S LETTER

Dear Mark Twain Families,

I want to invite you all to attend the PTO meeting at 8 AM and the All Parent meeting at 8:30 AM on Wednesday, October 9th. Mrs. Patin will be presenting information on the School Improvement Plan, IB program and a general overview of school data. I will give a brief overview of the PTO, a financial report from last year and our fundraising and community initiatives planned for the 2013-14 school year.

  • The first Dad's Club meeting is this Thursday, October 10th at 7:00 PM at Little Woodrow's. This is a great way for Dads to get involved in planning for the Dad's Club Campout and Spooky Spaghetti, our fall carnival.
  • Class Funds - I would like to make some clarification with regard to "Class Funds". The idea of creating a fund was to facilitate and simplify the request, collection, and allocation of monetary funds for each individual classroom throughout the year. These upfront contributions are completely voluntary and by no means mandatory.  In circumstances like the purchasing of class t-shirts and funding of class parties where everyone needs to contribute if feasible, those who have not contributed to the fund can simply cover the cost of those items as they arise.
  • Reserved Parking- Please do not park in the reserved parking spots in front of the school. Every year at the Huckleberry Bash, members of our community generously donate for the use of these spots. This money is used to support our school in many important ways including PYP training, additional curriculum materials, educational supplies, campus safety, technology support, library books and more. If we do not respect these reserved spots, they will no longer be able to raise such a significant amount of money for our school. Parental observation of these reserved spaces demonstrates PYP consistent attitudes of respect, gratitude and consideration. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me.
  • Check out the Spooky Scoop below! Bony Twain t-shirts go on sale this week in the rotunda. Don't forget to pre-order your wristbands, dinner tickets and carnival tickets. Tickets sales in the rotunda start the week of October 14th.
  • Walk or Bike to School Day will be Wednesday the 9th. It is a great community event to encourage a healthier and greener alternative to driving to school. Pull out you tennis shoes and enjoy the morning with your kids!
  • The Fall Informational Coffee is Monday, October 14th at 6:00 PM for prospective families that are zoned to Mark Twain.  Event details are below.  Fall Informational Coffee will be held in the library at Mark Twain Elementary for incoming families ZONED to Mark Twain.  Please encourage neighbors with pre-k children to come hear about our IB school.  They will have the opportunity to learn about our exemplary school, visit kindergarten classrooms, meet teachers, administrators and current parents. Doors will open at 5:45 PM for refreshments and a short performance by The Mark Twain Strings. This is an adult only event.  Special note: the location and times were changed from what was printed in the Sentinel.

Mark Twain is a wonderful school --- a true collaborative effort among Mrs. Patin, school administration, our amazing teachers and staff, students, parents and the entire community. I am grateful for each of you as we work together to make a difference in our children's education.

Have a great week!

Volunteer Opportunities

For volunteer opportunities, please contact Elecia Wheeler and Jen Griffith @ ewheeler9@att.net

TRIATHLON
Due to a number of unforeseen requirements set up through the city's Special Events Office, the Mark Twain Triathlon has been moved to a spring event. We want to make sure that our first ever triathlon is not only a fun event, but a safe and quality event for all involved. The extra time that we now have for planning is going to allow us to secure such an event, as well as incorporate some training.

We have established a tentative date in early March, but plan to begin registration and the sale of Twain Triathletes in Training shirts the first of November. We will keep you posted on training sessions as they develop and we hope that your children's preparation for the Triathlon will serve as a spring board to other great events next year, such as the YMCA fun run and the Houston Triathlon, both occurring in April.

Thanks to all who have shown interest and volunteered to help! Keep an eye out for more updates to come and registration to begin in November!

If you have any questions or suggestions, please contact: Monica Agosta magosta69@gmail.com
