This week! On Thursday, May 26th,
TEMS will host Mark Peter Hughes, an exciting and widely-acclaimed author of novels for young adults. Perhaps best known for LEMONADE MOUTHI AM THE WALLPAPERA CRACK IN THE SKY and the standalone sequel to Lemonade Mouth: LEMONADE MOUTH PUCKERS UP

On October 19th, TEMS will host poet, educator, and New York Times Bestselling author, Kwame Alexander.  
His 21 books include THE CROSSOVER,  Kwame writes for children of all ages. His other works include BOOKED, a middle grade novel published in April; HE SAID, SHE SAID, a Young Adult novel and CRUSH: LOVE POEMS FOR TEENAGERS. 
Help your students get the most out of these visits by having them read one or more of each author's books. Both authors will sign books during their visits and THE CROSSOVER will be required summer reading for 7th and 8th Graders. You can buy these books on Amazon.com and support TEMS PTO. Link
 
TEMS Welcoming Committee Meeting...
The PTO is forming a Welcoming Committee for next year to welcome TEMS families who are brand new to the district (families who have just moved here, students who are transferring from a private school, etc.). We will be having our first meeting on Tuesday, May 24 from 12:30-2:00PM at Pour Richards in Devon. We will be brainstorming ideas to implement in the fall. If you are interested in participating, contact Jen Marsala at jenmarsala@verizon.net - and start thinking about how we can reach out to new families!

School Store Volunteer Opportunities... PTO school store
Looking for a way to volunteer at school and interact with the kids? Join the School Store staff! Only a 2 hour commitment, once a month.  We're putting the schedule together now for next year.  Please contact temsstore@gmail.com for more information.

Attention Parents of 8th Graders- If your child has money left on their school store debit account, please use it soon or contact temsstore@gmail.com to transfer it to a sibling, cash out or make a donation to the PTO. Thank you!

Attention 8th Grade Parents-
The 8th Grade Recognition Committee needs volunteers to help the morning of graduation, Thursday, June 16.  We are also requesting more water for the student breakfast.  Water can be dropped off at TEMS on June 15. 2016-2017 TEMS PTO Proposed Slate of Officers
The final PTO meeting of the 2015-2016 school year will be on Wednesday, 
June 1 at 9am in the large group room.  All are welcome.  At this meeting we will be voting on the budget and the slate of board members.  If you are unable to attend the meeting and would like to vote on the slate, click here for ballot.

Once again, the Junior Model U.N. students made us proud.  At the Jr Model UN conference held on Thursday, May 19 the following students received awards:

The 7/8 TEMS Knowledge Bowl teams earned 2nd and 5th place out of 33 teams in the 2016 Chester County Knowledge Bowl competition held on Thursday, May 5.
 
May 25 is EDGE Day at TEMS. EDGE stands for Education for Developing Girls Everywhere. The newly created EDGE club is raising awareness and funds for Campaign for the Female Education, a non-profit in Africa that provides girls with scholarships and money for tuition and supplies.

CHS Fall Sports Meeting
For parents of 8th-11th grade students interested in playing a fall sport at Conestoga Wednesday, May 25 at 7pm.

Thursday, June 9th at 7pm
in the auditorium
Tickets are $5 in advance or
 $7 at the door.

All money raised is donated to the Dragonfly Foundation.

-Gr. 6/7 Impact Testing-
6th and 7th Grade ImPACT Testing: June 8, 9, or 10 in the Library immediately after school until 3:30 pm. Sign-up sheets will be in the cafeteria; permission slips will be in the main office. A completed permission slip is required before students may take the ImPACT test.

-Coming back to school next year?- 
TEMS staff is looking ahead to the 2016/17 school year. It is anticipated that some of our current 5th, 6th & 7th grade students may be attending a new school in the fall. If your child will be attending another school, Withdrawal Form must be completed to update your student's status. This facilitates any request for school records from their new school. 
Forms are available in the TEMS Main Office.

-Important Medical Information From the Nurse  for 2016-2017 School Year...

Students entering 7th grade in September 2016
 
The Pennsylvania Department of health requires all children entering 7th grade to have the following:
-1 dose of tetanus, diphtheria , acellular pertussis  (Tdap) If 5 years has elapsed since last tetanus  immunization
-1 dose  meningococcal conjugate vaccine (MCV)

 
If the school nurse does not have documentation of your child receiving one or more of these immunizations, you will receive a notification letter in the fall.
Remember, this information is required before your child begins Grade 7 in September.
 
Notice for Current 6th Grade Parents-
Dental Health Requirements-
The Public School Code of Pennsylvania requires all children in grades 7 to have a dental examination. Examinations completed by a family dentist within one year prior to the start of the school year are accepted for the required proof of such care. The required dental form can be reached at the school district web site under student health services.
Thank you for your assistance in meeting this state mandate.
 
Notice to 5th Grade Parents-
Physical Exam Requirement
The Pennsylvania School Act requires that all students in grade six receive a medical examination. Please have your physician either give you a copy of the exam with immunization update or they can complete a district physical exam form. If your child will be getting their examination AFTER September, please call the school nurse to inform her.
Copies of the form can be downloaded from the TESD or TEMS web site. Go to the Student Health Services homepage.
