Coming this Week!...Ryan's Story
TEMS has an important upcoming assembly for students in grades
6, 7 and 8.  In coordination with Valley Forge Middle School, TEMS has arranged for Mr. John Halligan to conduct a presentation on January 14th, 2016 at 8:30 AM.  Mr. Halligan will relay his own tragic experience as a father whose 13 year old son, Ryan, took his own life after experiencing bullying by peers both in school and online.  His story is riveting and powerful, and reminds students that there is a face, a person, and a heart on the other end of the computer screen.

A presentation for parents will also be held at Valley Forge Middle School on January 14th from 7:00 - 8:30 PM in Valley Forge Middle School's auditorium.  Mr. Halligan will share his story, cover the lessons learned regarding how to deal with bullying, cyber bullying, and teen depression and will share strategies to take preventive actions with your own children.

We have had Mr. Halligan at TEMS before and he has had a very positive impact on students and parents.  His messages are aligned with and support our HERO program and Bullying Prevention efforts.  Thank you for supporting this influential program.

MLK Casserole Collection-2016
Once again, the TEMS PTO will be conducting the MLK Casserole Drive to help feed the homeless.
Last year TEMS students, faculty and their families made a record of more than 320 casseroles that were delivered to soup kitchens and shelters from Philadelphia to lower Chester County. We'd like to make it to 400!
Grab your teammates, friends, relatives and have fun cooking together for a great cause! All efforts are greatly appreciated. Recipes at the link below or found on the TEMS PTO website.

You can participate in this rewarding service project by:

-Prepare-Purchase your own or pick-up a 12x10x2 1/2 disposable foil pan.  Pans will be available in the TEMS office the week of January 11.  Also, we'll be handing them out as kids depart school on Friday, January 15.

-Make-Gather family or friends to make your casserole. There are 7 great recipes to choose from.  Please remember to use Pork Free products in all casseroles.

-Freeze for 24 hours - Casseroles MUST be frozen when delivered to school.
casserole stack of

-Label-Tape the name of casserole on the top of the pan.  It's important that you indicate which casserole you made.

-Deliver-Drop off the casserole between 7:00am and 8:00am on Tuesday, 1/19/16. Parent & student volunteers will be collecting at all school entrances.

This year's drive is headed up once again
by Eileen Ryle and Carrie Erickson. Many thanks to them and all the volunteers who help coordinate collection as well as teachers/students/parents who make meals! Please contact Eileen Ryle at eileenryle@verizon.net.

Book Bonanza is Coming Soon...
Start clearing your bookshelves for the 2016 Book Bonanza! We will collect books suitable for grades 5-8, in good condition, from Monday, January 25-Wednesday, January 27. Donation boxes will be placed by the front and cafeteria entrances. On Thursday and Friday, January 28-29, students can come to the Large Group Room during activity/lunch periods and choose books to take home (regardless of whether or not they donated books). Contact Jane Martin at jcmartin2407@gmail.com or Lori Naser at ljnaser@msn.com with any questions.

What's Happening Around the School...

Mrs. Zan Lombardo and her artwork

You may have noticed that the school front entryway
looks a little different these days. That's because Principal Andy Phillips, not caring for the dirty old Girls' Locker Room doors asked Art Teacher of 30 years to do something about it. And she did. With an amazing art burning technique she burnt these beautiful Bulldog pups onto the shiny new doors.

"These young bulldogs remind me of the friendly leaders of our Student Council, the peacemakers who are our Bulldog Ambassadors and Model UN, the artistically behaving music students, the helpful and kind Bolts, and our many athletes known for their good sportsmanship on the court, mat and field. But most of all, these young bulldogs represent the thousands of playful, funny and kind students who pass through our doors each day."

Mrs. Lombardo has been working in TESD as an art teacher for 30 years. She started at TEMS, then travelled to CHS and Hillside and now ends her career here at TEMS once again. She plans to retire after the end of this school year "to Florida in June and live on an island on the SW Gulf Coast, near an artists' community. I'll kayak and paint watercolors and entertain family and friends who come to visit."
What a beautiful contribution to leave to the school to remind TEMS of her!

-Attention 8th Grade Parents-
A list of dates and activities scheduled to assist you in the CHS course selection process is found on the  TEMS website or here.

-Reminder to 6th Grade Parents-
One hundred and twenty-five (125) students still have not turned in a 6th grade physical exam report. Pennsylvania law requires that all students in sixth grade receive a physical examination. Families were informed of this mandate in June 2015, at the end of the school year. If you have not already done so, please have your child's doctor complete a physical exam report and return it to the nurse as soon as possible. If your child's doctor does not have their own form, blank TESD physical exam forms can be printed from the Student Health Services web page.
