Who Is Supposed to Do It?
"Christianity is personal but not private." That statement made by an instructor of The Health Church Academy I attended January of 2005 at Asbury Seminary impressed me. Christianity is more than a religion, it is a way of life - personal and public. Christians should look the same on the outside that they do on the inside. Unfortunately, the person within is not necessarily the person we want others to see. We are called to be honest with God even as God is always honest with us.
Here, I have been privileged to be your pastor for two years as of July 1, 2013. I am still just barely getting to know so many of you and many of you barely know me. Yet we as Christians should have an advantage that others do not. That is, because we are Christians, we love the same God and follow the same Lord of Life.
I have been called of God to serve you with God's love. Our first purpose as children of God is to love God and our second one is to love our neighbor as ourselves. We cannot love God if we cannot love others and ourselves. My personal vision is to love God and manifest that love in the way I treat others, in how I serve others and in how I behave as one who claims to be a Christian. If one's faith does not influence one's world view; that is how we see the rest of the folks that live on this earth... how we understand our call of God in this world... how we practice responsibility and appreciate accountability for the earth God has given us... then one has a very weak faith. Has Jesus changed your world view? He most certainly has mine... removing my personal feelings and prejudices with His view of the world He loves and died for. Christ continually transforms the believer's world view if the believer continually follows Him.
There are folks in our community who need to know that you love God and that because of that, you love them. Some of you have shown that love, by inviting friends and family to attend worship with you, or to participate in some kind of activity here at Trinity UMC. Do you have in your circle of friends and acquaintances, one or two who need God's love as expressed through His church? Ask someone to come along to church with you... invited them to fellowship in "Connect Café" following or before the worship times. Let them meet some of your community of faith. And you church members, who can, need to come over to Connect Café so folks can experience the real Trinity through you. We who know God should always desire that others may know God. You may be the only one who can help make that connection.
"Dear friends let us love one another. For love comes from God. Everyone who loves had been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love." 1 John 4:7-8
In His Love and Because of His Grace,
I Am Your Servant,
John D.

We are planning adult classes for fall and would like your input. Please pick up a Fall 2013 Adult Class Survey brochure in the church office or get one from an usher on Sunday morning. Inside you will find a wide variety of topics geared toward men, women, singles, couples, as well as Bible studies for everyone. Just circle the classes you would be interested in attending and indicate the days and times that are best for you. Return your survey to the church office or place it in the collection plate. We will take the completed surveys and base our fall offerings on the results. Thank you for your participation.
