This past Sunday was Mother's Day and we celebrated the "Festival of The Christian Home." The Christian home, a place where people are supposed to be loved first and judged last. Is it not the case that so often people don't feel the warmth and peace of a home? Members of the family come and go, meeting their separate schedules, going their separate way more than once a day. Home is supposed to be a place where we define family. We are "at home" with folks whom we love and with whom we feel comfortable and safe. Often times, someone who isn't employed and works in the house keeping it clean and organized is called a 'Homemaker." How would you define a homemaker? To me it wouldn't be someone who stays at home keeping order and cleanliness. It would be someone who instills in the occupants of that house a sense of love and responsibility to one another. Is that a male or female task? I would suggest that God is our homemaker because God is the one who instills love and responsibility in the hearts of people.
I came from a broken home... so many do! I came from an emotional place where, at one time in my life, if you were to call God my father or mother, from personal experience I would have said: "Well then, God is someone who doesn't care about me... God is someone who doesn't come through... seems immature and self-centered. I would say that, because that was my experience of family as a young person. (There are a lot of children out there who have had as bad or worse experiences with dysfunctional home-life) Yet as I lived with a number of families in my teen years, I learned that God is a wonderful homemaker. Folks took me in as a mother hen would gather her chicks and showed me that God was a God of responsibility and love... radical love. I learned from them that because Jesus loved them... they loved me! I have seen God the homemaker at work. Because of all those folks my God-view and my family-view was transformed.
That is why, when I celebrate the Festival of the Christian Home or Mother's Day, I wish everyone a Happy Mother's Day! God created motherhood and everyone who has lived or now lives on this earth had a mother, whether they knew that mother or not. Your mother may not be perfect and your father may not be perfect, but God our heavenly parent is perfect. God wants to make a home in everyone's heart. Because I met the homemaker through those who live in God's home, I am redeemed... I am saved... I am blessed... I am at home. So grateful for the heavenly homemaker!

A big thank you to all of you who helped with our recent week of hosting Family Promise. We could not participate in this very worthwhile ministry without the support of so many of you in our church family. Whether you contributed food supplies, dinners, transportation, or went the extra mile to sleep overnight at the church, all parts are important and all appreciated. The following poem was written by a guest in the program. Her words express so well the reason we have embraced the Family Promise ministry.
A Poem by a Family Promise Client
A struggling family, running low on hope
Hanging by a thread, trying to cope.
So much stress, our lives a mess
Wondering .... "How are we going to get out of this?"
Time's running out, we're losing our home,
Where we'll go next is sadly unknown.
All too quick, that day came upon us
But by the grace of God
We found Family Promise.

CROS is seeking host families that would be willing to house interns for approximately an 8-10 week period of time. They are college students who range from ages 19-28 years old. They are coming from around the state of Florida to serve on the Camp Team this Summer. Families can choose whether they would like a young man or young woman. The family is required to provide housing and laundry for the student. Meals are optional, but they would need to be able to prepare their own. Interns are arriving May 28th and will be returning August 10th. Some of this time will be residential training and camp.
Summer Interns needed for CROS Camps! We are seeking 13 young and talented men and women to serve as part of our Day Camp Program. Our program runs from June 10th-August 10th with a week prior to the start of camp for training. Our camp program takes place in Delray Beach, Lake Worth, Boynton Beach, and Pahokee. We serve campers who come from low-income households who are in K-5th grades.
The link below shows all the guidelines and the application process to be part of our summer program.
