Brighter Holidays

In the spirit of the holidays, JMSCHC's Community Health Department rallied to collect non-perishable food and toiletries for needy patients. We received donations from Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and JMSCHC employees. Their generosity allowed us to distribute bags of much needed food and toiletries to patient families in our community, helping to make their holidays a little brighter.

We were also proud to partner with The Women's Table of the Sisters of St. Joseph who - with the generous donations from the school community at Belmont Hill School- made it possible to provide eight Thanksgiving baskets with turkey, bread, milk and all the trimmings to make a very special meal for some of our neediest families.

With the local food pantries suffering from low supplies of food, these donations made a big difference for our patients. We are most grateful to everyone who made it possible!

Our Wish for the Holidays
with your help, we can provide high impact care where it is needed most!

2012 has been a tremendous year for Joseph M. Smith Community Health Center!  We achieved much, but have so much more to do. We need your support so we can continue to improve the health and well-being of Allston, Brighton, Waltham and surrounding areas by providing quality, comprehensive, coordinated care.

As health care reform continues, we are making changes and investments to improve the way we take care of patients.  We implemented a major upgrade to our Electronic Medical Record system and improved our quality reporting; created new nursing positions to better care for high risk patients; and began issuing End of Visit clinical summaries to our patients, so they can be a partner with us in improving their health.  Best of all, we received a $5 million Federal grant to build a new health center in Allston-Brighton! The planned $24 million, 40,000 to 45,000 square foot building on Western Avenue will finally give us the space we need to take care of the thousands of patients who still need our services.  Look for further news and requests from us for your help, and look for a new building in 2015!

All of this incredible work takes continued support from you.  In these uncertain economic times, the community needs our services more than ever. And with cuts in government budgets looming, we need your contribution more than ever to help us make an impact for those who need it most. Here's how you can help:

  • $35 provides interpreting services to a non-English speaking patient during a medical appointment
  • $60 provides new eye glasses to a child
  • $100 provides follow up care for a woman with an abnormal cervical cancer screening
  • $200 provides a comprehensive dental visit for a low income senior

On behalf of our Board, staff, and patients, I ask that you consider making as generous a gift as you can.  Make a secure donation online now by clicking here. Your donation - an investment in us - will be well spent to make a world of difference again this year for the 12,000 patients who call Joseph M. Smith Community Health Center their medical home.

I wish you and your family a wonderful holiday season, and a joyous New Year.

Sincerely,
