Eagle Scout Project - Alex Rimko
Alex Rimko, a local student and eagle scout spent the past 3 months recruiting sites, collecting  and distributing books from  book drives he set up.  His Eagle Scout project goal was to put books in the hands of children and families who may not have books in their homes.

Alex collected 3,600 books and all will be available at the CCRC main office starting Monday, 1/20/2014.  Child care providers can get books to give to their students and families or create ways for families to access these books on a regular basis.

Below are ideas to get books into the hands of families in fun  and intentional ways!
IDEAS
Back Seat Books

The idea here is to integrate literacy into a family's daily commute.  Children are given bags or crates (bought or created) with 2/3 books inside with instructions included that this bag is for the car.

Traveling Back Pack

This idea is nothing new, but the idea is to load up a back pack with 1/2 books with instructions inside the back pack for parents to read to or with their child.  You can also have discuss questions or activities tied to the books included.

Bedtime Stories

Bedtime stories have long been known to foster parent-child bonds and prepare children for sleep. But lately researchers have attached other powers to this nighttime routine. They say that while you and your little one are sailing with Max to the land of the Wild Things or sampling green eggs with Sam, you're actually boosting your child's brain development.
