UPDATES in Step Up to Quality!
| |
It is an exciting time in early childhood education, and I wanted to make sure that everyone knows the CCRC is here to assist your program.
1. Step Up to Quality is currently voluntary, but through recent legislation HB 487 and SB 316, it will require all publicly funded early learning and development programs to participate in Step Up to Quality (SUTQ) as a condition for funding. By 2020, the State of Ohio will only purchase services in high quality settings.
2. Did you know that 41% of Lorain County, 40% of Erie, 50% of Huron, 35% of Seneca and 40% of Sandusky County ODJFS Licensed Centers are SUTQ rated?
Since 2010, over $1.4 million dollars has been invested in star rated programs in Lorain, Erie, Huron, Seneca, & Sandusky Counties through the Quality Achievement Award. Soon, Step Up to Quality will expand to a 5-Star system and include all early childhood settings (school districts, child care, preschools, and family child care) providers. If your program would like assistance in achieving, maintaining, or increasing your star rating, please call me at 440-960-7187 Ext. 225.
3. CCRC's Quarterly Newsletter "The 411 on Early Care & Education" was recently mailed. Check out page 7 (Attached) as the CCRC has set-up computer labs throughout the 5 counties to assist Family Child Care Providers and center staff in getting into the Ohio Professional Registry. Registration is required, as each participant will have access to a computer.

4. Understanding the SUTQ Rating and Verification Process (These sessions will be scheduled in June/July).
5. If you are a star rated program in Lorain, Erie, Huron, Seneca, & Sandusky County, and did not get an invitation, please contact Jennifer Bartlebaugh at 440-960-7187 Ext. 225 so she can get the registration information to you.

Are We Truly Honoring Children & Families?
|
| |
Culturally sensitive care adds to the development of a child's self-esteem, social competence, language, and intellectual competence. Cultural sensitivity are is based on three unifying themes:
1. cultural diversity is good and enriching for everyone;
2. cultural sensitivity is an ongoing process that continues to develop over time, and
3. support of a child's full participation in his or her home culture is vital to optimal development.
This is a great training for Family Child Care Providers and Child Care Center staff, both. Also, SUTQ approved!

Are you prepared for Curriculum & Assessment for Step Up to Quality?

Have you looked at the SUTQ Draft Program Standards? Did you know that
all staff need to be trained to administer, score and use the screening tool appropriately?
Assessing children's development and learning is an important step in identifying children at risk for developmental or social and emotional delays. No matter the screening tool you decide to you, you need to learn to use it correctly and efficiently to make the best impact and proper referrals. The Child Care Resource Center is offering the
