[May 5, 2016] - Health Volunteers Overseas is pleased to announce the launch of a new pediatrics project in Luang Prabang, Laos. HVO volunteers will work with pediatric health care providers at Lao Friends Hospital for Children (LFHC) to improve the quality and availability of health care for the children of Laos.

HVO volunteers will provide continuing education, bedside teaching, case conferences, and mentoring, as well as organize journal clubs and other educational sessions for LFHC physicians, nurses and other health care staff. Volunteers will also provide teaching and training to pediatric residents at the site. In addition, HVO volunteers will collaborate with LFHC staff to develop presentations and engage in co-teaching opportunities.

HVO pediatric projects are supported by our sponsor, the American Academy of Pediatrics.
WAYS TO GET INVOLVED

VOLUNTEER
HVO is currently seeking experienced board certified/eligible pediatricians, pediatric emergency physicians or other pediatric subspecialists. Volunteers are needed who are hospitalists, ER specialists, and subspecialists in infectious disease, cardiology, hematology, nephrology, and neonatology. Other suspecialists will also be considered.

Volunteers must be members of HVO. Assignments are one month.

ABOUT HVO
Health Volunteers Overseas is a nonprofit organization that seeks to improve global health through education of the local health workforce in resource-scarce countries. HVO volunteers build local capacity by empowering health care professionals in resource-scarce countries with knowledge and skills to address the health care needs of their communities. HVO volunteers are trained health care professionals - physicians, nurses, dentists, physical therapists and others - willing to donate their time and expertise to work side-by-side with their colleagues overseas. Since 1986, HVO staff and volunteers have collaborated with a variety of health institutions to design, develop and implement each HVO project, working toward better patient care around the globe in trauma care, child and maternal health, essential surgery, cancer care, rehabilitation, and more.
