[January 27, 2016] - Health Volunteers Overseas is pleased to announce the launch of a new pediatrics project in Siem Reap, Cambodia. HVO volunteers will contribute to improving and maintaining the quality of inpatient and outpatient pediatric care at Angkor Hospital for Children (AHC), working to improve AHC's pediatric residency training program and to broaden professional perspectives and development opportunities for AHC's senior staff.

HVO volunteers will provide classroom-based, departmental, and hands-on clinical teaching as well as teach ward rounds to pediatric residents in the inpatient and outpatient departments at AHC and the satellite clinic in Sotnikom, a small town 35 kilometers away from AHC. Volunteers will also provide clinical pediatric sub-specialty training for junior and senior doctors at AHC. Pediatric radiologist volunteers will contribute to the AHC radiology curriculum and participate in remote consultations with the department as necessary. HVO volunteers will contribute to the professional development of senior AHC staff by modeling teaching, management and leadership skills.

HVO pediatric projects are supported by our sponsor, the American Academy of Pediatrics.

ABOUT HVO
Health Volunteers Overseas is a nonprofit organization that seeks to improve global health through education of the local health workforce in resource-scarce countries. HVO volunteers build local capacity by empowering health care professionals in resource-scarce countries with knowledge and skills to address the health care needs of their communities. HVO volunteers are trained health care professionals - physicians, nurses, dentists, physical therapists and others - willing to donate their time and expertise to work side-by-side with their colleagues overseas. Since 1986, HVO staff and volunteers have collaborated with a variety of health institutions to design, develop and implement each HVO project, working toward better patient care around the globe in trauma care, child and maternal health, essential surgery, cancer care, rehabilitation, and more.
