"It's only when we truly know and understand that we have a limited time on earth - and that we have no way of knowing when our time is up - that we will begin to live each day to the fullest, as if it was the only one we had.
- Elisabeth Kbler-Ross

Dogwood Days 2015 was a big success and we are thrilled that over 1,000 visitors took advantage of the week's events to experience the beauty and magic of the Wakefield Estate. Even though Dogwood Days is behind us, you can still visit us this summer to see the gardens at their peak. With this is mind, we are piloting a new program this summer called "Third Thursday Garden Music," an informal garden stroll modeled after our successful Wine, Cheese and Trees tour last month. Each Third Thursday event will feature a local musician and a variety of musical genres. We will kick-off the first Third Thursday program on Thursday, July 16 with classical violin. I hope you will take advantage of this unique garden music experience - with wine, cheese and trees provided, of course!

Dogwood Days 2015 - one for the record books!

Dogwood Days 2015  was one for the record books! As always, we kicked off the week-long celebration of our kousa dogwood collection with our Garden Party on a perfect June evening with which to share the stunning grounds, great food and beverages, and an unparalleled silent auction with our guests. Great weather continued through most of our open days activities which included two new features: Wine, Cheese, and Trees, and a bonsai-making class. The week wrapped up with a washed-out Dogs and Dogwoods, but the hearty few who ventured out were met with
yummy hot dogs, candy and dog treats from volunteers representing Milton Animal League, and tasty sips for dads from Blue Hills Brewery.

A Record Spring for School Visits Too!

After such a tough winter, it was exciting to get students back out for field trips and it was a super busy spring with school buses arriving almost daily! Over 1100 students visited in May and June from Milton and Boston schools, using the resources of the estate to explore science, history, and art. Thanks to teachers for sending along the childrens' thank you notes - we love the drawings and letters letting us know they had "the best time of my life at the Wakefield field trip."

Are You A VIP?
One reason for the success of this year's Dogwood Days festivities was the hard work by our new and growing corps of volunteers. If you would like to get more involved with the Wakefield Estate, we need your help.
Right now, we especially need volunteers to help us expand our Open Hours and help with our upcoming events like Third Thursdays.
If you have some free time, and would like to get a little more involved; or are a high school student looking to log some Community Service hours, please call Erica Max at 617-333-0924x22.
