"Youth is like spring, an over-praised season more remarkable for biting winds than genial breezes.  Autumn is the mellower season, and what we lose in flowers we more than gain in fruits."

- Samuel Butler

A year ago, we launched our new membership program as a way to engage the broader community in supporting the educational programs we offer here at the Wakefield Estate.  Members' support enables us to continue to provide an eclectic range of activities that appeal to learners of all ages. From archaeology to horticulture to historic preservation, this past year hundreds have enjoyed the tours, workshops and programs that have come to define our work.

Next weekend, as an acknowledgement of our gratitude to our members, we are hosting our first annual Members Open Weekend, an open invitation to all to come for a visit and walk the grounds at the peak of autumn's beauty. Our Members Open Weekend is also open to those who wish to become a member - and we invite all who wish to join our endeavor to make this beautiful corner of the Blue Hills a distinguished destination. So, join us for a cup of coffee early in the morning or a glass of cider or wine late in the afternoon - and take part and take pride in what you are helping to create!

The Kids are BACK!

We know it's fall here at the Wakefield Estate when the yellow bus pulls up out front each day bringing dozens of youngsters out to explore and be "scientists" for the day. We're excited this year to welcome classes from several new schools, including the Mozart, Martin Luther King, Henderson Inclusion Schools, and are happy to welcome back students from the Bates, Conley, Hale, Russell, Edison, Taylor, and Grew. We have again hosted two classes from Curry College's General Education Department, focused on use of outdoor experiences in early education, and issues relating to sustainability.
Holiday Inspiration with Lisa Ahern of Cedar Grove
Wednesday, Nov. 19th, 7:00-8:30 pm

With the holidays quickly approaching, it's time for "Holiday Inspiration with Lisa", our annual holiday decoration demonstration by Lisa Ahern, floral designer for Cedar Grove Gardens. Ahern will share her tips on how to create beautiful and easy floral accents for the holiday home, emphasizing creative and fun ways to make your home and table "shine" during the holidays. Enjoy some light refreshments, mulled cider or a glass of wine while watching Lisa work her magic! Most of the arrangements created during the workshop are raffled among those present at the end of the evening. Price for the workshop, which includes light refreshments, is $25 per person. Pre-registration is required. For more information or to register, call 617-333-0924.
