"Constant kindness can accomplish much. As the sun makes ice melt, kindness causes misunderstanding, mistrust, and hostility to evaporate."

The days are getting longer as the nights are getting shorter. We're approaching what is for me one of my favorite times of the year - the vernal equinox - when for a short moment the days and nights are of equal length. It is a time of great motion and change, when everything that was dormant and frozen -- and we all know that this winter, everything was in a deep freeze! -- thaws, yawns and springs into life as if awoken all at once by a celestial alarm clock. I find it immensely interesting to note that changes in the land take place at the fastest pace precisely when there is such balance in the heavens. When night and day are balanced, there is change - and rapid change - in the world around us, almost as if balance in the skies is a prerequisite for change to happen below. Land and sky, night and day, balance and change -- what appear as opposites are really the two sides of the same coin, for without day there can be no night; without land there can be no sky, and without balance, there can be no change.

March Stone Soup: Vintage Milton Slide Show
Thursday, March 27, 5:30-7:00 pm
This month's Stone Soup will feature Tim Kernan who will give a slideshow of vintage Milton images taken by his grandmother. Continuing with this year's series theme "untold stories in attics and archives," the photos were found in several turn-of-the-century albums, and are images of many properties along Brush Hill Road, and near Paul's Bridge and the Fowl Meadow. Some of the images are still mysteries, where Tim and his wife Susan have not been able to figure out what they are of. Come and take a look at what the Paul's Bridge area of Milton looked like at the turn of the 20th century, and help solve some of the mysteries!
Space IS limited. Pre-registration IS REQUIRED. To RSVP or for more information, please call 617-333-0924.

Backyard Homesteading Series: Pruning Practicum
Saturday, March 29, 9:00-11:30 am
Practice your pruning skills at this very special pruning workshop, designed as a "practicum" for folks who have taken pruning classes at other sites. One of the estate's certified arborists leads this session, affording a "hands-on" opportunity to practice what you've learned, and to learn even more! Most of the session will be held outdoors, so dress accordingly. While we will have tools and gloves available, feel free to bring your own.
Suggested donation $20 - pre-registration is required. For more information or to register, call 333-0924.
