"He who marvels at the beauty of the world in summer will find equal cause for wonder and admiration in winter. It is true the pomp and the pageantry are swept away, but the essential elements remain..."

Dreaming of Dogwoods... With one snow storm just over and gone out to
sea and another one on its way tomorrow, I took a walk today through the hundreds of kousa Dogwood trees planted by Polly Wakefield. I wanted to get a sharp mental image of the Dogwoods in snow so that come June, when they're in full bloom, I can remember their beauty on a mid-winter's day, just as now I can picture their remarkable appearance when smothered not by white snow but by white blossoms. One of the gifts of living in an area with four distinct seasons is the awareness of the constantly unfolding canvas outside our windows - nothing is static. Dogwoods, like all trees, are just as beautiful in winter as they are in spring, summer, and fall. We just need to change our frame of reference to see and appreciate that.

February Stone Soup: History of Thacher Dairy
Thursday, Feb 27, 5:30-7:00 pm
This month's Stone Soup will feature Maritta Manning Cronin. Continuing with this year's series theme "untold stories in attics and archives," Cronin will share engaging historical anecdotes and memorabilia relating to Milton's Thacher Dairy Farm. The Manning Family has operated Thacher Dairy Farm since 1891, providing farm-fresh, top quality milk and other food products to homes south of Boston and surrounding areas.
The Wakefield Estate's Stone Soup Series is a monthly event aimed at highlighting local topics and interests. After enjoying a bowl of tasty home-made soup, participants gather for a short presentation by the featured speaker. On March 27, Tim Kernan will present a slide show of vintage photos of local scenes and gardens. The April Stone Soup program will focus on the ongoing exploration of archives and collections at the Wakefield Estate.
Space IS limited. Pre-registration is required. To RSVP or for more information, please call 617-333-0924.
