The snow falls lightly outside my window, slowly covering up the imperfections of our fall clean-up, concealing where a small pile of leaves lay against the barn. The landscape's rough edges slowly recede under a gentle blanket of white, small dips and rises are made level. In this time of busy preparations, with long lists of things to buy or get done, the falling snow makes me pause and acknowledge the profound contrast between the pace of our lives and the rhythms of the world around us. And once again, I am reminded of the daily lessons offered to us by nature -- always there if we slow down, just enough, to notice them.
