"After all, I don't see why I am always asking for private, individual, selfish miracles when every year there are miracles like white dogwood."

-  Anne Morrow Lindbergh

Thank you to all who came out for our week-long Dogwood Days celebration, June 8-14! Over the course of the week, over 450 people visited the estate - most for the first time - to enjoy the beautiful sight of Polly Wakefield's 300+ blooming dogwood trees! Even the wettest June on record couldn't dampen the enthusiasm of so many who wished to experience walking among the dogwoods at their peak bloom. I want to send a special thank you to all our volunteers and community partners who helped make this year's Dogwood Days possible. For those who missed it, I hope you enjoy these photos in our newsletter, and we look forward to seeing you at next year's celebration!

Flowers, Fur, and Fun: 2013 Week-long Dogwood Days Celebration a Resounding (but wet) Success!
This year's week-long celebration of the estate's kousa dogwood trees featured open gardens, plein air painting, our first-ever plant sale and new partnership with The Garden's Conservancy's "Open Days" program. Another first, "Dogs and Dogwood Day," drew dozens of families and their four-legged friends on the prettiest day of the week. Due to its success, it is sure to be back next year.

Thanks to all our new members, supporters, visitors, and donors, who made this Dogwood Days a success. We hope you enjoy these images from the celebration, and share your own with us by email. Thanks also to the Patriot Ledger, Milton Times and Milton Patch for their coverage of the events.

The Wakefield Estate's Summer Archaeology Institute is a hands-on archaeological excavation at the Wakefield Estate. It is one of only a few programs of its type in the country. The institute is specifically designed for high school and college students interested in learning about local history and archaeology. Participants work side by side with graduate archaeology students from Boston University. Each two-week session offers students a hands-on introduction to the field of archaeology through participation in an actual excavation. To read about some of the past discoveries, check the news archive on our website.
