oh my goodness!
"A child's world is fresh and new and beautiful, full of wonder and excitement. It is our misfortune that for most of us that clear-eyed vision, that true instinct for what is beautiful, is dimmed and even lost  before we reach adulthood."  - Rachel Carson
The angle of the autumn sun together with the cooler air and fall colors mean one thing here at the Wakefield Estate: the kids are back! The fall is a busy time hosting as many school field trips as we can before it gets too cold to spend four hours outdoors. Yesterday, one third grader from the Taylor school in Mattapan looked up as he was filling his paper bag with  items for the nature scavenger hunt, and said with joy and wonder in his eyes: "This is the most fantastic day of my life." Hearing words like those - which made our day! -  inspires us to continue to develop programs that share the incredible beauty of this place with the communities around us.

Winter Prep Pruning and Maintenance Workshop
November 10, 9:00 - 11:00 am

fall

Fall is an ideal time to work in your garden. This session will review
pruning techniques, planting bare root shrubs and trees, bulb planting, dividing perennials and improving soil condition. Join us for this session where you will have a "hands-on" opportunity to try some of the techniques before applying them in your own yard. Your efforts now will help prevent winter damage and potential tree and shrub loss. To pre-register for this session, call 617-333-0924. This session will be held rain or shine, so dress appropriately for the outside portion (1 hour). Suggested donation $15.
