"The wind that makes music in November corn is in a hurry. ...A tree tries to argue, bare limbs waving, but there is no detaining the wind."  - Aldo Leopold

Almost every day in the fall, dozens of school children pile out of the bus at the end of the lane where the pavement ends and step into a reality far different from the city streets where they live. Surrounded by towering trees of every shape and color imaginable, they quickly stand in awe of the beauty around them, made even more stark by the brilliance of an autumn day.

Getting kids out of the classroom to get familiar with and value the natural environment around them is at the heart of our work with young children.

Last month, at the Boston Youth Environmental Network's annual gala, an event that showcases innovative outdoor education programs around the city, we were the proud recipients of the School-Community Partnership Award, an honor that recognizes our important work and inspires us to bring more children out of the classrooms and into the woods.

Wrapping Up the Fall BPS Field Experiences

Today marks the last field trip of the fall for students from Boston Public Schools. We've hosted over 20 trips, despite the rain and snow, and welcomed over 800 budding scientists. Many teachers have their students write thank you notes or essays on their favorite things about the visit, and this year Jack the Llama and our three sheep are high on the students' list, along with the chickens and the scavenger hunt! For us though, it's the smiles on the faces below that make our day!
