After all, I don't see why I am always asking for private, individual, selfish miracles when every year there are miracles like white dogwood.

Dogwood Days Open Gardens: June 11 &12

Please join us on Friday and Saturday, June 11 & 12, for our annual Dogwood Days Open Gardens. The gardens and grounds of the Wakefield Estate will be open to the public from 9:30am - 4:00pm both days, with guided tours of the formal gardens at 11:00am and 2:00pm.  A variety of tree saplings - including kousa Dogwoods, will available for sale.  If you've never toured the formal gardens of the estate now is the time! For more information call us at 617-333-0925.
May and June are perhaps the most beautiful months at the Wakefied Estate as the hallmark plant of this landscape, the kousa Dogwood, comes into full bloom. Polly Wakefield dedicated many years of her life experimenting with different cultivars of kousa Dogwoods. In fact, several well-known varieties of the tree today were originally propagated and patented by Polly. In the coming days and weeks, the deep green leaves of Polly's beloved dogwood trees become overwhelmed by the canopy of bright white blossoms - a spectacular yearly event that I anticipate as much as I do the colors of autumn. On Friday, June 11th and Saturday, June 12th the estate will be open for visitors to witness this display of natural beauty - I hope to see you then!

Young "Scientists" return to Wakefield Estate for Spring Field Experiences
Even as the staff has been busily preparing for the splendor of the upcoming Dogwood Days, the Estate has welcomed hundreds of children from many area neighborhoods including Mattapan, Jamaica Plain, Milton, Roslindale, and Dorchester. The students "field experiences" focus on science, with the students getting a chance to use all their senses to make discoveries and experience new things for the first time, like touching a frog, holding a worm or feeding the chickens.
