Front Garden April 2010

Thus came the lovely spring with a rush of blossoms and music,
Flooding the earth with flowers, and the air with melodies vernal.

The splendor of spring is truly breathtaking here at the Wakefield Estate!

Lilacs and tulips, eastern red buds and crab apples - the colors and textures of plants and trees this time of year create a spectacular portrait outside my office window. The arrival of beautiful spring weather kicks us into a busy season of programs, school visits and events.  Take a peek at our calendar to see the dates and details of upcoming workshops and garden tours.  And don't miss our high-density apple orchard workshop this Saturday

- May 1!

This semester, Boston University preservation studies student Maria Kohls is undertaking additional research on the owners and occupants of the Wakefield estate in order to complete the final nomination to the National Register of Historic Places.  In this photo, Maria examines one of the original deeds dating back to the early 18th century.  Graduate students from Boston University and Simmons College have made important contributions to the ongoing historical research on the estate.
