Look at what's hatching in 2010!

"Regard it as just as desirable to build a chicken house as to build a cathedral." - Frank Lloyd Wright

June seems so far away! Here we are in the dead of winter, ice and snow piled high all around us, and we're thinking of flowering gardens and warm summer days! In addition to our winter programming, January and February are intense planning months as we finalize the dates and details of our summer
programs.

In 2010, we are pleased to hold our second Summer Archaeological Institute for high school-age youth and will recruit a crew of summer landscape interns for the fourth year. Knowing that families are finalizing their own summer plans, we are anxious to

spread the word about these opportunities for youth.

If you know of young people who would enjoy and benefit from these programs, please have them contact us!

Calling all high school students!
The Wakefield Estate has some great opportunities lined up for teenagers to look forward to this summer.

Summer Archaeology Institute

Back by popular demand, we will host our Summer Archaeology Institute aimed at giving metro-Boston area High School students a hands-on opportunity to experience an actual ongoing archaeological project. There are two sessions:
Session I: June 14 - June 25; Monday-Friday 9am-3pm and Session II: July 5 - July 16; Monday-Friday 9am-3pm.
For more information and an application, contact Mark Smith at 617-333-0924 or by
email.

Wakefield Summer Internships

The Wakefield Estate offers several 6-8 week summer internships to students 16-21 years old interested in learning landscaping. The interns' time will be spent learning and practicing basic skills of landscape maintenance and arboriculture with Wakefield staff. They will be actively involved in the maintenance of this unique landscape and will have the opportunity to listen to invited guests share career experience and insights. Interns must provide their own transportation or car pool with other interns. Interns receive a modest stipend for their work.

Some experience working in the landscape is of value but not required. A love for the outdoors, an eye for detail, a cheerful attitude, and a curiosity about nature and history are all helpful. To apply, or to find out more, contact Erica Max at 617-333-0924 x22 or by email.
