Workshop series for Dementia Caregivers at East and West Oahu locations
The workshops Positive Approach to Dementia Care will be held from April to October, 2017.
This series is especially valuable for family caregivers and friends of someone with memory loss who do the day to day care and want to learn many effective and beneficial tools and tips for improving communication, helping with challenging behaviors, dining, how dementia progresses, what is normal and not normal aging, and providing care in the final stages of dementia. These Positive Approach to Care™ seminars or workshops were developed by dementia advocate and occupational therapist Teepa Snow and provide essential information for families and care partners on how to have a positive and meaningful relationship with loved ones with Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia throughout their journey. Dorothy Colby is a mentor for Teepa Snow training and co-trains with her on the Mainland. Each series has six workshops on different topics - one for Oahu East Side series at Kahala Nui, and one for Oahu's West Side at The Plaza at Pearl City. National POLST Paradigm Toolkit Webinar Series
The National POLST Paradigm is hosting a webinar series to present a new POLST toolkit we've been developing, Using the POLST Paradigm to Honor Patient Wishes Across the Care Continuum. This toolkit is intended to give facilities a reference of what the POLST Paradigm is, and will provide resources (FAQs, sample policies and practices, etc.) to help implement quality procedures that support the treatment wishes of patients using the POLST Paradigm.
This Spring 2017 webinar series (which began April 6 but is being recorded) includes 6 webinars, an Overview, plus 5 webinars that correspond to various care settings in which POLST is important:

Please join our monthly meeting on Thursday April 27, to learn, laugh, mingle and network. This month Larry Nabb, VP of PMSO (Population Member Service Organization) Strategic Partnerships at HMSA will be giving us an update on Supportive Care including statistics from the last 5 years and a look to the future. Supportive Care is a ground breaking benefit from HMSA that offers patients the opportunity to receive high quality, comfort-directed care with they undergo disease modifying treatments. The palliative teams that provide the care are provided by hospice who works with the patient and their loved ones to create a plan of care for each individual. Supportive Care was a pilot for 4 years and as of January 1 became a benefit for certain HMSA members. Thur. April 27, 2017
