 Dear Friends,
As much as many of us would like to ignore the inevitable... with the Labor Day weekend now behind us, the transition from summer to fall is officially here.
While some straggling sweltering days may still remain throughout the month of September, we all know that shorter days and cooler nights will quickly arrive. So, the question is -- "Now what?"
Fortunately at Appalachian Brewing Company, the answer is simple. It's Oktoberfest season! Since our company's inception in 1997, ABC has done it's best to bring an authentic taste of Munich to each of our brewpubs, with a nearly month-long celebration that kicks off this coming weekend.
Of course, I'm talking about the 18th Annual Capital City Invitational Beer Festival! This can't miss event on September 12 is the flagship gathering of craft beer lovers, featuring more than 20 of the region's top brewers gathered inside our original Harrisburg brewery and restaurant! This year, we've assembled many of your favorite craft brewers, as well as a solid showing of first-time attendees who we're excited to welcome to the fold.
This truly is a world-class event, and I encourage you to act quickly to secure a ticket to to your preferred session. As always, you can expect to enjoy dozens of beer sampling options from our visiting brewers, an Oktoberfest-style buffet and live entertainment inside our iconic 100-year-old building.

You can also purchase tickets in advance at any ABC brewpub between now and Saturday, or purchase tickets at the door on the day of the event. However you arrive, we can't wait to share a special day with you and your friends in Harrisburg!
Of course, our annual beer festival is only the beginning. If you cannot join us on September 12 to kick things off in Harrisburg, you'll still have plenty of time to enjoy our special Oktoberfest menu of authentic German dishes at all of our brewpubs from September 13-October 5 (menu varies by location).
Finally, I'd be ignoring a HUGE part of the fall season if I didn't mention football! Whoever you root for this season, remember that ABC craft beer and soda is sure to be a fan favorite for all your tailgate and party needs. A celebration of authentic German food
From September 12 through October 4, each of our ABC brewpubs will be offering a menu of authentic German cuisine! This celebration is a reflection of the time honored festivities in Munich, with a limited schedule of live music to accompany dinner. The freshest beer comes straight from the tanks
The main function of our Harrisburg brewery is to brew our year-round flagship beers for our brewpubs and wholesale distribution. But we still use very bit of extra space to supplement our seasonal specialty beer lineup. Here's a look the beers that have just been finished, and are currently brewing in Harrisburg:

A flavorful, seasonal brew awaits
While supplies last, visitors to our brewpubs will be delighted to find Greenaway Farm Fresh Hop Pale Ale on tap!
Once again, we looked to our friend Dan Greenaway to collect some freshly picked buds from his hops farm in nearby Lycoming County, PA.
This year, our brewers used 41lbs of Cascade and 11 pounds of Chinook hops in this brew, which was produced at our Mechanicsburg brewery.
The fresh-picked hops in the mash result in a delightful crisp and grassy characteristic our customers have grown to love since introducing this beer in 2011.

This Fall favorite begins with additions of real pumpkin, which is caramelized to enhance the natural sugars. Not overly spiced, the fresh pumpkin is the star of the show.

Man Man

Man Man is a fearlessly unique band from Philadelphia. The group's fifth full length album On Oni Pond features an arresting reconstruction of the group's visionary sound - stripped to its core and rebuilt as something new and compelling yet still very much Man Man. This marked shift is a direct result of an intensive collaboration between the band's frontman, Honus Honus, and drummer Pow Pow, who has assumed a new-found prominence in the songwriting process, bringing an exhilarating array of new rhythmic ideas to the mix. "This is a strange and beautiful record but it's also head on and fearless," says the band's frontman Honus Honus. "It's not a record that's going to flirt with you, this is a record that's asking you out. If you get into bed with us there's going to be a relationship."

Chef's Recipe
Grilled Chicken Shawarma
From the kitchen of ABC Executive Chef Kyle Mason, we present this tasty and innovative dish you'll enjoy trying at home!
Grilled Chicken Shawarma
Serves 4
Ingredients:
For Chicken
1lb. of boneless, skinless chicken breast, cut into strips
2 TBSP lemon juice
2 TSP olive oil
1 TSP curry powder
½ TSP ground cumin
¾ TSP of salt
3 cloves of garlic, minced
Kabob skewers
For Sauce:
½ cup of plain 2% reduced fat Greek yogurt
2 TBSP Tahini
2 TSP lemon juice
¼ TSP salt
1 clove of garlic, minced
4- 6" pitas
1 cup of chopped Romaine lettuce
8 thick slices of tomato
Directions: - Preheat grill to medium high heat
- To prepare chicken: First add lemon juice, ground cumin, salt, olive oil, curry powder and the minced garlic to a medium bowl and combine. Next add chicken to the bowl and toss well to coat. Let stand at room temperature for 20 minutes.
- To prepare sauce combine yogurt, tahini, lemon juice, salt and the minced garlic with a whisk in a small bowl.
- Thread 2 chicken strips onto each of the 8 (12 inch) skewers. Place kabobs on a grill rack coated with cooking spray; grill for 4- 5 minutes on each side or until internal temperature reaches 165F.
- Place pitas on the grill rack; grill 1 minute on each side or until lightly toasted. Place 1 pita on each of the 4 plates; top each pita with ¼ cup of romaine lettuce and 2 slices of tomatoes. Top each pita with 4 pieces of chicken; drizzle each with 2 TBSP of sauce.
Enjoy with your favorite ABC craft beer or soda!

We're Building a NEW Brewpub!
ABC returning to downtown Gettysburg
After having to close the doors to our original "Battlefield" brewpub in Gettysburg earlier this year due to historic preservation efforts - we're back!
Last month, ABC broke ground on our newest brewpub location, to be located along the expanding Steinwehr Avenue corridor on the south side of Gettysburg. This new space, complete with its own in-house small batch brewery, should be ready for visitors in spring of 2016.

Sunday: Sunday is Family Day at ABC, featuring our ½ priced Kids Menu. After 5pm, enjoy free pool in the Abbey Bar. Monday: Mugger Monday features half-price appetizers for regular menu items for all Mug Club Members. Happy Hour happens from 4-6pm with $1 off ABC drafts. Tuesday: Tuesday is Growler Night.
