The Official Brewsletter of ABC Collegeville
May 2015
The Craft Beer and Soda of Appalachian Brewing Company
Dear Friends,

If there's one month of the year that always jumps out on my calendar, it's the month of May. While we do our best to keep a very busy schedule of fun events throughout the entire year, May is the only month in which we get to celebrate our company's anniversary!

It's hard to believe that later this month, Appalachian Brewing Company turns 18!

As always, we're throwing a party! I'd like to personally invite you to our main brewery in Harrisburg on Saturday, May 16 for our Anniversary Fest celebration featuring free food, discounted ABC beers including our Anniversary Maibock, Keg Olympics and live music in The Abbey Bar. While I realize this event is a bit of a drive for our friends in places like Gettysburg and Collegeville - if you've ever wanted to visit the place where your favorite craft beer is brewed every day, you couldn't pick a better time than during our anniversary festivities.

Of course, before we even get to our own milestone, we'll turn our attention to another very important day happening this weekend - Mother's Day. Whether you plan to take Mom out for dinner, or just a drink on Sunday, May 10, we hope you'll choose ABC for the occasion.

While we're speaking of amazing women, I'd like to take a moment to thank the wonderful group of ladies who organized the recent Harrisburg Beer Week. ABC was proud to be the presenting sponsor of this highly successful inaugural event, which featured more than 140 craft beer related activities across our region, and benefited the brave men and women of Harrisburg River Rescue.

Finally, we're excited to announce the launch of our updated website, www.abcbrew.com! While our previous website served us well for many years, the goal of our new site is to provide clean and simple access to the things our customers want most - including pictures and descriptions of our delicious brewpub menu items, our many varieties of craft beer and soda, and our live events and banquet information. We hope you enjoy the new look, and we look forward to your suggestions for making it even better.

Until next time, Cheers!

(717) Collaboration Ale
We may be in the (484), but we'll still drink it!

For the first time ever, Appalachian Brewing Company was part of a three-way collaboration beer with a pair of Central PA's premier craft breweries. The result was an amazing, some would say 'very interesting' batch known as (717) Collaboration Ale. We're proud to have teamed up with long-time neighbors Troegs Brewing Company and Pizza Boy Brewing to create a one-of-a-kind brew that featured characteristics of all three beloved brands.

(717) is an IPA-style brew featuring locally grown malt, copious amounts of hops and wildflower honey. The Official Beer of Harrisburg Beer Week didn't disappoint, and this tasty craft beer is still available for a limited time on draft at all (or most) ABC locations and in four-packs of 16oz. cans - but only while supplies last!

Meet the Brewer: Pat Gallagher
Get to know the guys who brew your favorite beer!

Curiosity is natural. So, if you've ever thought to yourself "Hey, I wonder who brews this beer?" - allow us to shine some light on the subject. This month, we'll continue our new feature called "Meet the Brewer"... and we'll keep doing this until, well, we run out of brewers!

Name: Pat Gallagher

Hometown: Born in Baltimore. Lives in Lititz, PA.

What he does: Pat is part of the team that brews the eight year-round flagship beers at our main Harrisburg brewery - including Mountain Lager, Water Gap Wheat, 'Jolly Scot' Scottich Style Ale, Hoppy Trails IPA, Aero-Head Bock, Outta Focus Double IPA, Chocolate Avenue Stout and Trail Blaze Maple Brown Ale.

How he became an ABC Brewer: Pat has been an ABC employee for about three years, and was one of the original staff members at ABC of Lititz, when the brewpub opened in 2012. Along the way, he was trained on the 5-barrel brewing system in Lititz, before being promoted to the main brewery in Harrisburg earlier this year.

Favorite style of beer to brew: "I'm a stout and porter guy," says Pat. "I want to make bold beers. Not bold as in fruity or sour beer, just bold in flavor. So, I really want to make bold stouts, porters and lagers."

Favorite ABC Flagship Beer: Chocolate Avenue Stout

Favorite ABC Specialty Beer: Batch No. 666 Halloween Beer

Next time you see Pat around the brewery, don't be afraid to say hi. He's passionate about beer, and eager to share his brewing experience with his friends at ABC!

Featured Specialty Beer:
Anniversary Maibock

Anniversary Maibock

OG 18.5 | ABV 7.2 | IBUs 20

This malty lager is deep golden in color and medium in body. The finish holds a bold sweetness that is balanced by a subtle hop flavor and aroma. Bock-style beer is typically a lager that is often associated with the symbol of a goat. The Maibock style traditionally was produced in the winter and released in early May to celebrate the coming of spring. At Appalachian Brewing Company, we release our Anniversary Maibock each spring to celebrate our own birth month!
