 gala20-Year Anniversary Celebration

Anniversary Gala brings residents and friends together

On Friday, October 5, 2012, the Emerald Heights community -- residents, staff, past and present board members, key business partners and other friends -- came together for a grand 20th Anniversary Gala Celebration Dinner.

Many guests received special honors in recognition of the role they played in Emerald Heights. Members of the 1992 board of directors wore white roses; residents and staff who have been with the community for its 20-year existence wore yellow roses; and Charter Member residents wore red roses. Current and former board members were welcomed, along with key business partners.

With CEO Lisa Hardy serving as Master of Ceremonies, guests were entertained by a series of speakers who recalled the early days of Emerald Heights, gave insight into the community spirit that is still alive and well, and shared some amusing anecdotes along the way.

What does it take to create community?

It took 33 years of work to celebrate 20 years of community.

I cannot help but admire the folks who had the vision and the determination to make Emerald Heights the vibrant community it is today.

It took a strong vision driven by the insistence that Eastsiders shouldn't have to retire in the Seattle when it came time. They wanted their own version of a retirement life, in the same way they had carved out a lifestyle unique to their lifestyle in suburban Bellevue. But the quest for such a place was a long and challenging one!
