What a party! The Volunteer Picnic was so much fun! Great entertainment, great food, and amazing volunteers. Over 250 people attended the annual celebration. We were reminded of the importance of the 1200+ volunteers who keep people fed, safe, and independent.
As we were reminded by the President at the White House Conference on Aging, it is our responsibility as a society to take care of elders. We need to honor those who built this country and now need a little help. MOWSOS volunteers, sponsors, and donors are doing their part. I encourage you to join us and be a part of this great effort. Become a Legacy Donor or a volunteer. I challenge you to make a difference.
Sincerely,

Drive to Save Lives
Almost 20% of Seniors 65 years and older in Contra Costa County live below the Federal Poverty Level. 14% are food insecure and those numbers are growing!
Our Meals on Wheels program serves more than 750 homebound, frail, and food insecure seniors every day and relies heavily on 350 drivers to deliver those meals.
According to Nancy Raniere, Meals on Wheels Program Specialist, "The need for drivers in Antioch, Pittsburg, and Bay Point is critical. Many of our drivers vacation during the summer months which impacts us greatly. We have a desperate need for drivers and substitute drivers."
Volunteer driving is a 2 hour commitment once a week. Delivery is Monday through Friday between 10:30am and 12:30pm.
Please consider becoming a volunteer driver and help us feed our seniors in need of healthy, nutritious meals. You will make a tremendous difference in the quality of their lives.
To apply, click here or call Carol Louisell at 925-954-8736.
For more information, please contact Nancy Raniere at nraniere@mowsos.org or 925-937-8607.

Choose Health, Drink Water
What you drink is as important as what you eat. Many beverages contain added sugars and offer little or no nutrients, while others may provide nutrients but too much fat and too many calories.
Check out this infographic to see the amount of sugar in many of our favorite drinks.

For more information, please contact Cynthia Black at cblack@mowsos.org or 925-937-8311.

Dancing-Room Only
The third "Be Our Guest" event celebrating Father's Day was held on June 19, 2015 at our Bay Point
C.C. Café at the Ambrose Community Center and it was a rousing success!
103 seniors attended lunch and enjoyed music, raffle prizes, special gift bags for the first-time guests, and lots of dancing.
Evelyn Baclig, Bay Point C.C. Café Site Manager, decorated all the tables with handmade centerpieces that were given out to the guests.
We want encourage more seniors to attend one of our C.C. Cafés in Bay Point, Concord, Crockett, Pittsburg, Rodeo and Walnut Creek and would appreciate your help in spreading the word.
For more information, please contact Michelle Gee at mgee@mowsos.org or 925-937-8311 x108.
