An oil painter, sculptor, and silversmith, Joanna was born in New York City and raised in New Jersey, a few miles outside of Manhattan. She spent many afternoons after school either in New York, viewing museums and galleries, or in after-school art programs. Ms. Draugsvold began teaching in the arts in 1975. She continued her education at Wesleyan University in Connecticut to complete a degree of Masters of Liberal Studies with a major in fine arts in 1981. Since the early '80s, Ms. Draugsvold has shown the body of her work in a variety of forums, including one woman shows at the Katherine Brush Library Gallery in Windsor, Ct (1981), Noble and Greenough School (1990), and The Emily Landau Center for the Arts in Ashburnham, MA (2003). Ms. Draugsvold also exhibits individual paintings in New England art shows, including The Copley Society's Member Show and The Fitchburg Art Museum's Regional Artist's Show (where she was awarded honorable mention for her painting, Cinque Terre, Italy in 2003), as well as in The Nashua Chamber of Commerce Art Show (spring 2007), The Greater Gardner Art Association (fall 2007), The Westminster Circle of Artists' Show and The Petersham Regional Art Show (both in the fall of 2008).

Ms. Draugsvold taught fine arts at Cushing Academy, retiring in the spring of 2006 to open her own art studio in Winchendon.  In 2008, she was appointed Director of Creative Programs, at the Winchendon School teaching fine arts, sculpture, and portfolio art, as well as English and American History. Eclectic: A Retrospective Exhibition
The Jaffrey Civic Center
Fractured by Micella Carla Statuto
The Jaffrey Civic Center is pleased to announce a Young Artist Spotlight exhibit which will showcase the work of local young artists under the age of 30. The debut exhibit of Micella Carla Statuto, will include her mixed media work titled, Eclectic- A Retrospective Exhibition in the first floor Display Cases beginning March 11th through April 7th. An Opening Reception will be held on Friday, March 11th from 5pm to 7 pm. A native of Peterborough, Micella graduated with a BA in Studio Art from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, where she hungrily delved into every facet of art, from painting to welding. As the daughter of a physician, the study of human anatomy highly influences her surrealist pieces, in particular. She is a self-taught jeweler, and is currently pursuing a career as a professional art teacher. She recently completed an internship at the Jaffrey Rindge Middle School where she was an Art teacher intern. In addition, her jewelry can be found locally at Alice Blue in Peterborough.

Statuto breaks through boundaries and challenges conventional thinking and ideas with each interesting and dynamic piece, and her need to convey a vast array of profound and sometimes uncomfortable emotions is what truly drives her work. Her passion for artistic expression in nearly all mediums stems from her innate desire to visually communicate with a diverse audience, while positively impacting others.

There will also be Honorable Mention awards. The show will run through April 16th, 2016.

*If you are an artist and would like to submit work for the show, the deadline is Saturday, March 12th, 2016.*
