GALA was organized to promote the arts as an essential component of a healthy community. We believe that artistic expression is a community's greatest legacy for future generations. GALA will increase awareness and appreciation of the arts by way of exhibits, instruction, theater productions, musical programs and provision of scholarships to students in local schools.

En Plein Air with GALA.
The initial meeting of "En Plein Air with GALA" will be held Saturday, June 8, from 10 AM to 1 PM at Dunn Pond State Park in Gardner (rain date: June 15). Come and join your fellow artists at beautiful Dunn Pond for painting, drawing, photography, or any portable medium in the fresh air. GALA member and local artist, Joe Smith will lead the group for an informal day being creative in the park. What will you need? Anything that will help you create art outside of your studio. The hope is for a couple of hours capturing the scenery as only artists can, then convening for a gathering afterwards to gain perspective on the day's results. Len Haug's Up-Coming Event
|
Len Haug's " Love Bug" has been juried into the 2013 Annual Danforth Art Museum's "Off the Wall" Exhibit that opens on June 8th at Danforth Art Museum and runs through August 4th. The Museum is located at 123 Union Avenue in Framingham, MA. This highly competitive show received over 500 artist and 1500 submissions of which less than 100 were selected for inclusion in the show. Each year, the Danforth Art Museum's Annual Juried Exhibitions showcase new and exciting contemporary work created by both emerging and established member artists. Len's collage "The Love Bug" was also awarded the GALA's "Best in Show" Ribbon in the 2012 Fall Show.

Alicia Drakiotes' Upcoming Exhibits & Events
| Alicia Drakiotes is juried into the Beacon Hill Artwalk an annual event for 2013. Her location for the June 2nd event will be on West Cedar Street in the Boston Beacon Hill district. The event runs from 12 noon until 6 pm. More info on the event can be located at: http://www.beaconhillartwalk.org
Alicia has been juried into Plein Air Castine an all day plein air painting event in Castine, Maine on July 27, 2013. Thirty plus artists will participate in this distuinguisehed paint out event. For more info on Castine's Plein Air Festival http://www.castinearts.org

| The Artists' Circle, GALA's Art Critique Group, is taking a break for the summer. They will gather again in September to share art created over the summer. Rust Buckets and Tin Cans Exhibit by 3 GALA Members
|
It's not too late to catch the small group exhibition titled
" Rust Buckets and Tin Cans" by artists Brad Willard, Louise Parmenter Hammerman and Alicia Drakiotes at the Jaffrey Civic Center (in the Auditorium Gallery) at 40 Main St, Jaffrey, NH. With works in Photography, Acrylics, Oils and Pastels, the three talented artists honor the Iron Horse, one aspect of Vintage Americana. The Opening Date for this exhibition was May 31, 2013, but it continues through June 29th. The hours are Tuesday 10-6, Wednesday - Friday 1-5 and Saturday 10-2.

Acrylic Painting Workshop with Lori MacDonald

Lori MacDonald will be holding a Step-by-Step Painting Workshop on Saturday, June 15th from 9AM to 3PM,
at the Boulder Art Gallery, 960 Main St., Fitchburg, MA.
The easy to follow instruction makes this class suitable for beginners or intermediate painters alike.
The cost is $22, which includes the 12"x6" canvas panel for the "Purple Coneflowers" painting. Students who have painted with Lori in the past should bring their own paints and brushes. Joanne Holtje, Selected!
| A painting by Joanne Holtje has been selected by Executive Director, Katherine French for inclusion in the Danforth Art Museum's show, Community of Artists. Close to 1500 works of art were submitted for consideration in this juried art show. Joanne was one of those extremely talented artists selected to participate in the show. Congratulations! Tower Hill Botanical Gardens Alice Milton Gallery

Please join Barry Van Dusen for his third solo show at Tower Hill Botanic Garden titled, Birds, Beasts and Blossoms. More than forty original watercolors will be on display in the Alice Milton Gallery which began in May and continues through June 16, 2013. Many subjects from North Central Massachusetts will be on display, including Plants and Flowers, Birds, Butterflies, Dragonflies, Farm Subjects and Landscapes. All works will be for sale, with a portion of the sales to benefit programs at Tower Hill.

2013 Post Road Art Center's Student-Teacher Show
This show features artwork by the teachers and their students (young and old) at the Post Road Art Center. Their work in oils, acrylics, pastels, drawing, colored pencil, watercolor and other media will be on display. The opening reception and open house is Saturday, June 1st, 2:00p.m.-5:00 p.m, the show will be available to enjoy through June. Meet the teachers, see what their students have created; perhaps, if you like what you see, maybe you would like to take a class yourself!

Please send it "publication ready", as we need to minimize the need for editing. If able, please include a digital image to include in the newsletter. Inclusion of items/announcements is always at the discretion of GALA, but inclusion of submissions from non-members is limited to information deemed to be of benefit to GALA members.
