New GALA Visual Arts Critique Group
New Group Forming!   Free to ALL current GALA members!
No matter what your medium or experience level, you are invited
to participate in the GALA Visual Arts Critique Group.
First meeting will be on Saturday, March 2, 2013 from 10 am until 12:45 pm.
in Gardner at the Levi Heywood Memorial Library in the Greenwood Meeting Room.
Participants are asked to bring two pieces of art, either completed or in process.
Coffee and tea provided -- consider bringing a snack to share.

received an award from juror, George Nick at the
Concord Art Association show, Members' Juried I: Painting & Sculpture.
Show is up until Feb.10.
 
Joanne also had two pieces juried into the Post Road Art Center's 2013 Figure & Portrait show. Juror Bob Collins awarded a prize to her piece, "Golgotha".   View the show online.
Photoshop for Photographers Workshop with Guy Biechele

to the Next Level!"  February 9, 2013, 10 am - 2:30 pm
at the Sharon Arts Center, 457 Route 123, Sharon, NH
This workshop is for digital photographers and film photographers who work from scanned images. Participants should have a basic knowledge of Photoshop. We will explore more advanced techniques for digital photograph manipulation and enhancement. Topics demonstrated, discussed and practiced in the Digital Imaging Lab will include working with RAW camera files, retouching portraits, creating HDR images, color correction, advanced black and white photograph conversion techniques, distortion correction, and more. Participants should bring their cameras and memory card or disk with images to work on.

Photography Exhibit by the NQVF Photography Club
An exhibit of photography by the
North Quabbin Viewfinders (NQVF) Photography Club
begins February 4 and will be on display during the month of February at the
Levi Heywood Memorial Library in Gardner, MA. Gallery open during library hours.
 
NQVF photographers, including three GALA members, participating in this exhibit are Johnny Botch, Paula Botch, Danna Boughton, Matthew Boughton, Anne Colturi, Diana Cooley, Harriet Ellsworth, Joshua Grosky, Mitchell Grosky, Bill Manser, Cheryl O'Brien, Mike Phillips, Barbara Sweeney, Andrea Tikka, and Carl Tikka.
 
NQVF was founded in July 2008 with a primary purpose to foster photography as an art, hobby, or vocation, along with instruction and sharing of knowledge and experience. Members range in age and ability from new photographers to professionals, all with varied subject interests and all kinds of cameras. NQVF provides training opportunities, both formal and informal, as well as a variety of field trips.
 
Anyone wishing to share their interest in photography with others is welcome. Meetings are held at 7 pm on the second Friday of each month at the Orange branch of Workers Credit Union.

4th Sunday of each month: "The Nature of Dunn". Discuss flora/fauna & go for a nature hike.

"Quabbin's Got Talent"
The First Congregational Parish, Unitarian in Petersham, MA will be hosting a four-part "Quabbin's Got Talent" Coffee House series starting Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013 at 6:30 pm in the Davis Memorial Hall located behind the church. The talent contest is open to all ages, both individuals and groups, and is funded, in part, by the Massachusetts Cultural Council.
