A New Moran

The Preservation Trust frequently highlights completed preservation projects around the state, but only infrequently do we share the exciting and inspiring work that happens in the initial stages of adaptive reuses of historic properties.

The former Moran Plant in Burlington has been a derelict eyesore on the waterfront for decades.  In a last effort to reinvent the site, the City of Burlington has issued a call for proposals to re-purpose the building. A team of community members and professionals is developing a plan for "The New Moran" -- a mixed-use events hub operating in an energy self-sufficient building.  The New Moran will support human powered recreation and access to local food, art, energy and technology.

The New Moran Team launched a Kickstarter Campaign early this month. The City of Burlington's review process culminates in a public vote on the project in March 2014.  Between now and then, all additional Kickstarter funds raised above and beyond the initial goal of $18,000 will be used for community-building public art and pop-up events at the Moran building.
