Project Inspiration
May, 2016
May has arrived and spring is really in the air now. We love this weather- warm days, but cool evenings that still require a shawl or light sweater. We've got some great project ideas for you, perfect for these sweet spring days!
Acadia
Beech Hill Poncho
Cadillac Mountain

A long time favorite from Fibre Company! Acadia is a luscious 2 ply blend of 60% merino wool, 20% baby alpaca, 20% silk, with a rustic look and soft hand. A subtle tweed effect is created by the silk noil combined with the  heathered base, creating incredible depth of color.

The Fibre Co recently published a group of patterns dedicated solely to Acadia, and they are lovely! Our favorites are (pictured above) Beech Hill, a fabulous poncho and Cadillac Mountain, that perfect vest that everyone needs in their wardrobe!  Otter Creek, below, is a classic dolman tee with subtle texture. Marcie immediately cast on Otter Creek and we are both crazy about the finished product. It is so beautiful and wearable!

Firefly

One of our favorite yarns for spring is Classic Elite's Firefly, a rustic blend of linen and viscose, with a subtle sheen and marvelous drape. The palette is soft and sophisticated, and looks wonderful worked up in cool summer tops and accessories.
One of my favorite Firefly knits is the simple, stylish wrap, charmingly named Same Thing Only Different. It is the perfect lightweight layer to throw on, adding elegance to any outfit! Depending on the size, this wrap takes 3-4 balls of Firefly.
Same thing only different
I just recently finished another project that I absolutely love, using 2 Classic Elite yarns, both perfect for spring. In my Sun Kissed shawl, knitted alongside Firefly is Canyonpart of the MountainTop Collection of naturally colored yarns. Canyon is a perfect combination of pima cotton with just a hint of un-dyed alpaca, to create a smooth and silky yarn in a perfect weight for summer. Using 2 balls of Firefly and 3 skeins of Canyon, Sun Kissed is a lovely, graceful addition to your spring wardrobe!
Sun Kissed
This shawl was our knit a long project last month, and it was so fun to see the color combinations everyone chose. All so different but beautiful. I have to share Chris' finished shawl- it is just so striking! She used Shibui Twig for hers in the colorways Apple and Tar. Amazing!

Recipe

Cheese Biscuts
Perfect with a cup of tea or glass of chilled white wine

glass of chilled white wine!

Ingredients

2 cups flour

2 tsp. salt

black pepper to taste

1/2-1 tsp. dry mustard

1/2 lb. butter, softened

2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese, firmly packed (or a mix of cheddar, parmesan, gouda, edam, etc.)

24 pecan halves

2 Tbs. black and white sesame seeds

Directions
Place the flour, salt, black pepper, dry mustard, softened butter and shredded cheese in a medium-large mixing bowl and mix well. Taste and adjust the seasoning, if necessary. (Some people leave the butter and the cheese out at room temperature over night to soften and sharpen.) You can add a few grains of cayenne pepper if the cheese is not strong.

Form into marble size balls, place on a parchment lined baking sheet, and press with a fork. Place on the top of each cheese biscuit, a pecan half, a sprinkling of sesame seeds, or leave plain.

Bake in a preheated 375 degree oven for 15 to 20 minutes or until lightly browned.
Let cool a few minutes before removing from the baking sheet.

Note: You could also place the dough on wax paper and roll into a cylinder about the size of a 25-cent piece. Chill this for 30 minutes, then slice the cold dough about 1/4 inch thick and bake as above.
