Yarns on First
How I love these crisp mornings and warm afternoons of autumn. The pumpkins are starting to appear on doorsteps and the leaves are slowly turning red and golden.  And our thoughts are turning to wool and alpaca, sweaters and shawls. The holidays are coming and it's time to get busy making gifts! We've got some great workshops coming up and beautiful new yarns in the shop, so come on in!

*Starting this Sunday, our winter hours go into effect.*

Telluride
We love this new sport weight yarn from Classic Elite. Telluride is a beautiful blend of Superfine Alpaca, Linen, and Donegal, which results in an incredibly soft and drapey fabric. It is subtly tweedy, with a lovely color palette that lends itself perfectly to color work. I immediately cast on Lone Star, an adorable cabled vest. We also love this cowl, with it's diamond weave pattern and subtle blending of the color ways.

Folio Luxe
Another new yarn we are excited about is Berroco's Folio Luxe, a luscious, superfine alpaca that feels as soft and luxurious as cashmere. It has been infused with glittering metallic strands, perfect for glamorous accessories or a very special garment. We knit this elegant little cowl out of just one skein that would make lovely gift for anyone on your list, and we have a customer that just cast on for this sweet short sleeved cardigan. We can't wait to see how it turns out!

Recipe
It's October and the time for all things pumpkin! This recipe is originally from the Fannie Farmer cookbook, and one that Marcie has been baking for years. It is simple to make, not too sweet, and easily customizable. Add nuts, or raisins, or orange zest! Especially delicious with a cup of chai tea!

Pumpkin Bread

Ingredients:
1 1/2 cup flour
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup sugar
1 tsp baking soda
1 cup pumpkin purée
1/2 cup vegetable oil
2 eggs, beaten
1/4 cup water
1/4 tsp nutmeg
1/4 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp allspice
1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)

Preparation:
Preheat oven to 350.
Sift together flour, salt, sugar, baking soda.
Mix the pumpkin, oil, eggs, water and spices in a separate bowl.
Combine wet ingredients with dry, don't over mix.
Stir in the nuts or other additions
Pour into well-buttered loaf pan.

Bake 50-60 minutes until a knife inserted in the middle comes out clean
Turn out of the pan and cool on a rack.
Enjoy!
