Yarns on First

Wow, it's been hot in Napa lately! Hope you are all staying cool out there! Despite the recent heat wave, the summer months are flying by and we've got our eye on fall yarns and holiday projects. Only a little over 4 months until the holidays are upon us! Time to get started on those gifts! We've got lots of beautiful new yarn in the shop, fun patterns, and tons of ideas, so come on in for some inspiration!

The Madder Anthology 1 trunk show is at the shop for another week, so if you haven't had a chance to come in and see it, make sure you get in to see it soon!

We are especially excited to welcome Freia Handpaints to our shop. We love their ombre, self striping yarns and vibrant colorways! Also recently arrived is Artisan, a gorgeous brand new yarn from Berroco, with a lovely hand and kettle-dyed look.
Freia Handpaints
Freia is a Bay Area company that sources almost entirely from the USA and is dedicated to keeping their environmental footprint small. As a bonus, they also make gorgeous and unique yarn! In order to achieve their trademark long color runs, they have developed their own dyeing process, which while labor intensive, allows for an even consistency in the yarn and colors over multiple dye lots.

We brought in the Rustic line of lace weight, which is 75% wool/25% nylon, with a whopping a 645 yards per ball, and is perfect for shawls, scarves, and cowls. Marcie has started a Boneyard shawl, a free pattern by Stephen West. This a simple triangular shawl that exhibits the long color runs perfectly.

We also brought in a custom milled merino/silk blend in a sport weight. It is one of very few merino/silk blends that is truly made in the USA! It is beautiful and lofty with a subtle luster. I knit up a Zuzu's Petals with this yarn and just loved it! The pattern by Carina Spencer is so well written and fun to knit, and really showcases this beautiful yarn.

Berroco Artisan
We were very excited to see this new yarn from one of favorite companies! Artisan is a worsted weight yarn, spun of silk and wool, and dip dyed in a range of vivid jewel tones.  Worked up, Artisan creates a tonal, tweedy, textured fabric with a luxurious hand. It has a slight sheen and is soft, yet light, making it perfect for garments and accessories alike.

It's (still) salad season!
This recipe comes from the kitchen of my talented husband, chef at the Robert Mondavi Winery!

pint cherry tomatoes, halved
1 bunch basil, leaves chopped
3 C arugula
4 oz. goat cheese, crumbled
