April, 2015

April is flying by and we are really heading into the heart of Spring now. Our projects are shifting from cozy cowls and sweaters to lighter shawls and breezy tops. We have 2 seasonally appropriate yarns to share with you today- Twig, which is a very special new yarn from Shibui, and Modern Cotton, a great worsted weight blend of Pima Cotton and Modal Rayon from Berroco. The third yarn we are featuring, Mecha from Malabrigo, is not exactly a natural for spring projects, but is new to the store and so beautiful, we had to share!

A new favorite from Malabrigo! Mecha, which means single ply in Uruguayan Spanish, is a bulky weight, with an incredibly soft hand. It is soft, squishy, silky and vibrant in the signature deep saturated colorways that Malabrigo does so well. While this yarn is great for accessories, it is a superwash and would make an amazing sweater as well! In addition to Mecha, we've got lots of Malabrigo Worsted, Rios, Rasta, Sock, and Lace in stock as well! |

New from Shibui, Twig is a lovely and unique yarn, made of 46% linen, 42% recycled silk, 12% wool. It knits up into a beautiful fabric - soft and cool, with the kind of drape that is simply effortless. This sport weight yarn is impeccable as a standalone and entirely mixable. We love this yarn equally for accessories, such as the graceful Tier, or for summer tops, like the beautiful Slope featured here.

Made in a palette of sophisticated neutrals and cheerful brights, Modern Cotton is a blend of Pima cotton and Modal rayon, beautifully twisted to showcase stitch patterns and a soft hand. This yarn is perfect for summer tops, such as Joyce and makes a great lightweight baby blanket, like this adorable, botanical themed Saurey! Both above patterns are free! |

Recipe
Nothing says spring more than Strawberries and Rhubarb!
Gingered Strawberry-Rhubarb Compote
Ingredients:
4 Cups diced rhubarb (1-1 3/4 lbs)
2 Cups strawberries, hulled & halved
1/2 Cup sugar, or to taste
1/2 Cup fresh orange juice
Grated zest 1 orange
Grated zest 1 lemon
2 Tbls chopped candied ginger
Dash of salt
Combine zests and sugar until evenly distributed and fragrant. Add together with rhubarb, berries, orange juice ginger, and salt in heavy non-reactive saucepan. Stir well and bring to boil. Reduce heat, cover and simmer, stirring occasionally, until rhubarb is tender, 10-15 min. Let cool, then refrigerate until serving. Reheat slowly if desired. Serve plain or over ice cream, yogurt, or cake. Enjoy!
