Hard to believe it is almost February! Here in Napa, it feels like spring has already arrived. While we are hoping for some rain, we can't help but enjoy this lovely weather. It is surely inspiring us with thoughts of warm weather garments, and we have been filling up our shelves with light and lovely spring weight yarn.
Classic Elite's Firefly
Firefly is a beautiful sport weight yarn, new to the shop. We just fell in love with it's subtle sheen and lovely color palette. Firefly is a warm-weather yarn, 75% Rayon and 25% Linen. The juxtaposition of the linen with a light-catching sheen gives it a distinctly feminine look. Firefly drapes wonderfully at a wide range of gauges - knit loosely for elegant lace or more tightly for stockinette fabrics. I cast on for a Firefly Fringed Scarf immediately, with thoughts of a Bergen sweater close behind!

Classic Elite's Canyon

Canyon is another beautiful offering from CE's MountainTop collection of naturally colored yarns. Pima cotton combines with a just hint of undyed alpaca, to create a smooth and silky yarn. The four subtly toned neutral shades are sure to compliment everything in your summer wardrobe. Canyon looks great in stitches ranging from plain Stockinette or garter stitch to intricate lace and cables. Marcie is knitting up a White Clover shawl in the Sand colorway and it is just beautiful. We also have plans for a Purl Soho Cap Sleeve Lattice Top, using Canyon for the lattice on top and Firefly for the bottom portion. Stay tuned!!
Classic Elite's Chateau
We are very happy to announce the arrival of Chateau at Yarns on First. Chateau is a colorful cousin yarn to the very popular Chalet, with the same super soft fiber content (70% Alpaca, 30% Bamboo) and lofty chainette construction. It knits up quickly, which is perfect for last-minute gifts. Any pattern written for Chalet will knit-up just as beautifully in Chateau. I love the idea of a Color Block Bias Wrap knit out of a mix of Chalet and Chateau, and this sweet feather and fan scarf, Dora Maar, is a great little project!

MadelineTosh
And for all you MadTosh fans out there, we had a nice little shipment arrive at our doorstep last week. We received a nice selection of Vintage, replenished our stock of Tosh DK, and a few brand new colorways in Merino Light. The Vintage is a perennial favorite of ours, and one that we haven't had in stock in a while. It is perfect for our Lucy Hat class which is coming right up, as well as for all your favorite sweater patterns. The Merino DK, an extremely versatile yarn has a slightly smaller gauge than Vintage and is a great go to for accessories or sweaters, like the adorable  shrug by Knitting Pure and Simple that Marcie just completed, or the equally sweet Antler Cardigan.
