Yarns on First
Exciting things are afoot at Yarns on First! Fall yarn has been pouring into the shop and we have some fabulous new projects on the needles that we can't wait to share with you! While we were sad to say goodbye to two of our lovely instructors, Jennifer Bell and Sandy Vitorello, we wish them all the best in their new adventures. We are very happy to introduce you to Nicole Woodruff and Vanessa Kearns, our two fabulous new teachers. They have many, many years of both knitting and crocheting experience between them, and can't wait to get started teaching here at Yarns on First. Judy du Monde, knitter extraordinaire, is picking up our Beginning Knitting classes, as well as some exciting new workshops. Please read on for our upcoming schedule of classes and workshops!
Knitting 101 knitting
instructor: Judy du Monde
Learn all your basic knitting skills  with Judy, who will lead you through knitting, purling, and pattern reading skills. This class is perfect for absolute beginners, as well as those looking to refine existing skills in order to move onto more advanced work.

Crocheting 101
instructor: Nicole Woodruff
Students will have so much fun in this beginning class with Nicole. You will learn slip knot cast on, chain, single crochet, half double crochet, double crochet and slip stitch, as well as some basic pattern and diagram reading, while working on a small granny square project. No previous experience needed!

Crochet Moebius Cowl Workshop
instructor: Nicole Woodruff
Crochet this beautiful cowl, even as a beginner! This project is quick, fun, and requires minimal skills. The mind-bending magic of a moebius loop adds a clever twist to that simplest of stitches, single crochet. Pattern provided!

Crochet Boteh Scarf Workshop

This super cool scarf is perfect for the advanced  beginner, who has some knowledge of reading diagram patterns and the double treble stitch. Works up quickly and makes a great gift. Pattern provided!

Sprouts Chain Shawlette Workshop sprouts

This sweet little shawlette is the perfect pattern for the advanced beginner crocheter.The long chain and solo single crochet stitch pattern featured in this shawl is easy to memorize and relaxing to crochet. And the adorable flower fringe is such a great touch! Free pattern!

Saartje's Booties Workshop

Join Vanessa for this adorable, quick baby knit. Perfect for advanced beginners or intermediate knitters. Learn casting on mid project, increasing, decreasing, and seaming. Great for stash busting as you can knit a pair with only 100 yards of sock yarn!

Sock Workshop socks
instructor: Judy du Monde
Traditional sock style for beginning sock knitters. You will learn
the basics of sock construction, including Dutch flap heel, turning the heel, gusset shaping, making a toe, and much more! The 3rd session will cover the "after thought" heel, favored by knitters who want less bulk in the heel. Basic knitting skills and experience with double points required.

Continental Style Knitting
instructor: Judy du Monde
Continental style knitting is known for it's economy amd efficiency of motion, and relative quickness and simplicity in comparison to the English style of knitting most common in the United States. You will learn the difference in not only how the yarn is held and tensioned, but how each stitch is made. The efficiency of Continental style is especially apparent when pattern stitches come into play. Join us and see for youself!

Fix it! 
instructor: Vanessa Kearns 
Mistakes are part and parcel of the knitting process, even for the most advanced knitters. The key to success is knowing how to recover from them! Vanessa will teach you how to pick up dropped stitches, unknitting, unpurling, "frogging", as well as some other invaluable tips and tricks!
