August, 2013
Happy August! We are enjoying some lovely cool weather here in the Napa Valley- perfect for knitting & crocheting. While the summer weather may not be all that warm,  the yarn deliveries have sure been coming in hot and heavy! Our shelves are bursting with new yarns- we'd like to share some of our favorites with you!

Sweet Fiber

We are super excited to introduce you to a brand new yarn here at the shop. Sweet Fiber Yarns is a luxury hand dyed yarn company located on the south coast of British Columbia. Founded by Melissa Thompson in 2011, SF strives to supply today's knitters with incredible colourways, exquisite yarns and unique knitwear designs. Their yarns are hand dyed in small batches to ensure both quality and handcrafted originality. We've brought in 2 different weights of yarn that we think you will love. The Super Sweet Sock yarn is made with a blend of superwash merino and nylon that will keep up with the wear and tear of everyday life.  The Merino Twist Worsted is spun from 100% superwash merino in such a way that produces both loft and spring. Great for sweaters, hats and anything cabled! The colorways of this yarn are so rich and vibrant and has a wonderful hand. We think you are going to love it as much as we do!

Cascade Ultra Pima and Luna

We have developed quite a fondness for Cascade Cottons this summer. We may have had just a bit of a prejudice against cotton previously, but these two yarns have really turned us around!

Ultra Pima is truly a fabulous yarn, and ranks up as one of my new favorites.  It is soft, silky, supple,
and shiny! It does not pill or split and has incredible sheen and drape. It is machine washable and dryable (on low), so it is a perfect go to for kid's items. It comes in tons of gorgeous colorways, making it also a great choice for shawls and tops.

We adore it for Never Not Knitting's  Very Cherry Dress.  Marcie whipped this up with just 3 skeins of Ultra Pima, with enough left over for a little cap. How adorable is it?

What's next for Ultra Pima? Maybe a little top, like this Summer Waves Cardigan, perfect for late summer evenings. Check out the beautiful stitch definition!

Or, perhaps a sweet little shawl. I love the look of the Miami Beach Shawl, which is, like the Summer Waves Cardi, a free pattern from the Cascade site. This shawl takes just 2 skeins of Ultra Pima!

Luna is another great addition to the Cascade family. Like the Ultra Pima, it comes in wide variety of saturated colors, as well as some super fun and vibrant variegated versions. While the Pima is a DK, Luna is an aran weight, and has a soft ply, which creates a lovely, rippled effect.

I've started a  Lollipop Skirt out of Luna, and it is so fun to knit with!

Luna is also a great choice for blankets, like this adorable Road Trip Blanket, as it is also machine washable, and oh-so-soft!

Stephen West Patterns!
We are big fans of Stephen West around here, and are very happy to be carrying his patterns. His work is  very distinctive, with it's architectural lines and often dramatic use of color. His patterns are well written and always fun to knit!
We've knit up two different versions of his Daybreak shawl for the shop. The first is done with Shibui Staccato, and is just a lovely little drapey shawl. The 2nd, knit out of Rowan Felted Tweed is larger and warmer, but no less gorgeous!

We have brought in some richly hued Pagewood Sock yarn with Stephen's patterns specifically in mind. Pagewood is a California company that hand dyes it's yarn in small batches with beautiful results. The St. Elias sock yarn is 80% Bluefaced Leicester and 20% Nylon.

Next on our list to knit? Herbivore with Pagewood St. Elias in the Santa Fe colorway!

Della Q

We have brought in some beautiful new bags from Della Q. We love this company's dedication to beautiful, unique fabrics and well made, functional products. We now have project bags, as well as smaller notion cases.

I love both the Pippa and Rosemary bags. Not only do they keep your yarn tidy and project's organized, they are so cute! Perfect for projects on the go!

The Cleo is a fabulous larger sized bag. It has tons of pockets, and will stand up on it's own. This is such a great feature in a project bag! We have a limited supply of the Cleo, so don't miss out!
