Princeton alum and playwright Branden Jacobs-Jenkins '06 received the 2014 Obie Award for Best New American Play on Monday, May 19, at the 59th annual Obie Awards ceremony in New York City. Jacobs-Jenkins was honored for two critically acclaimed Off-Broadway plays this season: Appropriate at the Signature Theater and An Octoroon at Soho Rep. The Brooklyn-based Jacobs-Jenkins is currently a playwright-in-residence at Signature Theatre Company in New York City. His other awards include a Princess Grace Award, the 2013 Sundance Theatre Institute Tennessee Williams Award, and various playwriting fellowships. Plans are underway for Jacobs-Jenkins to teach a course at Princeton next spring.

Exhibition featuring artwork by graduating seniors 
Through Tuesday, June 3
 
The Program in Visual Arts is presenting the Senior All-Star Art Show, an exhibition of selected work in a wide range of media by Class of 2014 graduating seniors. The exhibition will be on view in the Lucas Gallery at 185 Nassau Street through Tuesday, June 3. Gallery hours are weekdays from 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with special hours for Reunions Weekend on Saturday, May 31 and Sunday, June 1 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The exhibition is free and open to the public. Learn more

Arts alumni group to host event at Reunions Weekend 
Friday, May 30 from 3:30-5:30 p.m.
 
Princeton Arts Alumni, a newly established group focused on connecting and supporting Princeton students and alumni in their creative endeavors and careers, will host a reception during Reunions Weekend on Friday, May 30. The reception will be held from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. in the Lucas Gallery at 185 Nassau Street. All Princeton alumni who work in, have interest in, or support and celebrate the creative and performing arts are welcome. RSVP here

Exhibition of works selected from the annual competition 
On view through April 2015
 
Exploring the interplay between science and art, the annual Art of Science exhibition consists of images and videos with aesthetic merit that were produced during the course of scientific inquiry. The works are on view now through April 2015 in the Friend Center atrium on the University campus. The Lewis Center is one of several cosponsors of this project led by the School of Engineering and Applied Science. The exhibition is free and open to the public. Learn more 

Highlights from our upcoming season include:
  • A production of Peter Barnes' Red Noses, an edgy farce set in the 14th century during the black plague that begs the question: what action would you take if all the rules suddenly changed?
  • Riverrun, the acclaimed one-woman show based on James Joyce's Finnegan's Wake
  • The French Theater Festival featuring classic plays and new works presented by celebrated and emerging French actors and directors
  • Readings by award-winning poets and writers along with fresh new student work, all part of the Althea Ward Clark W'21 Reading Series
  • Exhibitions of new student work in a variety of visual media and screenings of new student films
  • Spring Awakening, a production of the Tony Award-winning rock musical adaptation about the trials, tribulations, and exhilaration of youth
  • The Spring Dance Festival featuring new and repertory works by renowned choreographers
  • Productions of David Rabe's gripping Vietnam war drama The Basic Training of Pavlo Hummel, Paula Vogel's How I Learned to Drive, and a new adaptation of Nikolai Gogol's The Diary of a Madman
  • Series of engaging presentations on Irish culture including Belfast novelist Glenn Patterson, award-winning theatre artist Olwen Fouere, and traditional Irish musicians The Ghost Trio
  • Showings of new work created in Princeton Atelier courses with acclaimed theater director Marianne Weems, graphic designer Danielle Aubert, and renowned choreographer Susan Marshall
  • A production of José Cruz González's delightful and mystical children's play The Magic Rainforest: An Amazon Journey

The inaugural Fellows in the Creative and Performing Arts at Princeton, graphic designer Danielle Aubert and percussionist/composer Jason Treuting, have completed their first of two years that they will spend on campus teaching and collaborating with students and faculty. The fellowships, open to early-career artists in all disciplines, bring new artistic energy to campus while allowing students to learn from professionals. The Lewis Center for the Arts encompasses Princeton University's academic programs in creative writing, dance, theater, and visual arts, as well as the interdisciplinary Princeton Atelier. The Center represents a major initiative of the University to fully embrace the arts as an essential part of the educational experience for all who study and teach at Princeton. Over 100 diverse public performances, exhibitions, readings, screenings and lectures are offered each year, most of them free or at a nominal ticket price. The programs of the Peter B.
