Showing of new performative
dance works
Wednesday, January 8 at 5:30 p.m.
Two students from the Dance/Visual Arts fall 2013 Muscle Memory course will present Key / Frame, a showing of new performative works, on Wednesday, January 8. The performance will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the Lucas Gallery at 185 Nassau Street and is free and open to the public.

Multi-media performance by
Arts Fellow Jason Treuting
Thursday, January 9 at 4:30 p.m.
On Thursday, January 9, Fellow in the Creative and Performing Arts Jason Treuting will present Delange, Down, Edwards, a multi-media performance incorporating original music and three short videos created in collaboration with Jenise Treuting. Greg McMurray will accompany on guitar. The performance will begin at 4:30 p.m. in the Lucas Gallery on the second floor at 185 Nassau Street. A short Q&A session and refreshments will follow the performance, which is free and open to the public.

A senior thesis production

From Friday, January 10 through Sunday, January 12, the Program in Theater will present Hedda Gabler by Henrik Ibsen and adapted by Christopher Shinn, directed by faculty member Tracy Bersley and featuring senior theater certificate student Sean Drohan as Hedda. Drohan tackles one of theater's most complex and controversial female characters in Hedda Gabler, exploring what it means to not "fit" in one's world, one's home, or even one's body, leading to the climactic last line of the play, "People don't do such things." What has Hedda done? Performances will begin at 8:00 p.m., with a performance scheduled for Saturday, January 11 at 2:00 p.m. in the Marie and Edward Matthews '53 Acting Studio at 185 Nassau Street. A talk back discussion will follow the matinee performance on January 11. Tickets: $12 general admission; $10 for students and seniors. On how to write a compelling proposal
Wednesday, January 15 at 3:00 p.m.
All Princeton students are invited to a Summer Funding Workshop hosted by the Lewis Center on Wednesday, January 15 at 3:00 p.m. The workshop will provide guidance on writing a compelling proposal for Lewis Center summer funding opportunities. The workshop will be held in the James M. Stewart '32 Theater at 185 Nassau Street and refreshments will be served following. Submission deadlines for Lewis Center Summer Funding will be in mid-March 2014.

On the movement language of Gaga
Wednesday, January 15 at 1:30 p.m. (tentative - check Lewis Center website for updates)
The Lewis Center's Program in Dance will present a Master Class on Gaga, a dance practice developed by Ohad Naharin, on Wednesday, January 15. Gaga is a movement language originating from the belief in the healing, dynamic, and ever-changing power of movement. Led by Ariel Freedman, the class will begin tentatively at 1:30 p.m. in the Patricia and Ward Hagan '48 Dance Studio at 185 Nassau Street. The class is open to all Princeton students to participate and the public to observe.

Featuring student work in a variety of media
January 16 through 31, 2014
Beginning on Thursday, January 16, the Program in Visual Arts will present a comprehensive exhibition of new work created by students in fall semester courses in drawing, painting, photography, graphic design, sculpture and other media. The exhibition will be on view through Friday, January 31 in the Lucas Gallery on the second floor at 185 Nassau Street. Gallery hours: Weekdays 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Free and open to the public.

Dance opportunity with the pioneer of Hip Hop
January 16, 2014 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.
On Thursday, January 16, the Program in Dance will present a Master Class by pioneering Hip Hop dance artist Crazy Legs. The class will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. in the Patricia and Ward Hagan '48 Dance Studio at 185 Nassau Street and is open to all Princeton students to participate and the public to observe.

Three short films created in the course
"Documentary Filmmaking"
Friday, January 17 at 7:30 p.m.
The Program in Visual Arts will present a screening of In the Plaid, Hey Jude, and Ellipses, three new short documentaries. The films to be screened were created by students in a fall 2013 undergraduate course, "Documentary Filmmaking," taught by filmmaker Emily Abt. The screening will take place on Friday, January 17 at 7:30 p.m. in the James M. Stewart '32 Theater at 185 Nassau Street and is free and open to the public. A reception will follow.

Lewis Center recognized by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education
The Lewis Center's Office of Communications has earned a gold award from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) for visual design in print for the Program in Theater's 2012 Fall Show poster, designed by Tracy Patterson for Der Bourgeois Bigwig. The award will be presented at the CASE District II conference in Baltimore in February. This is one of several awards achieved this year for various communications projects at the University.

The Lewis Center for the Arts encompasses Princeton University's academic programs in creative writing, dance, theater, and visual arts, as well as the interdisciplinary Princeton Atelier. The Center represents a major initiative of the University to fully embrace the arts as an essential part of the educational experience for all who study and teach at Princeton.
