Performances by students 
in fall 2013 Dance courses 
Friday, December 13 at 11:30 a.m. & 2:00 p.m.


The Program in Dance will present two performances by students in fall 2013 dance courses on Friday, December 13. At 11:30 a.m. Acting Director Rebecca Lazier's students from "Advanced Dance Performance and Choreographic Projects " will show their work, followed with a performance by students from Lazier's "Modern Dance: Beginning Technique and Choreography " class at 2:00 p.m. Both showings will take place in the Patricia and Ward Hagan '48 Dance Studio at 185 Nassau Street and are free and open to the public.

Evening concert at Small World Coffee
Saturday, December 14 at 8:30 p.m.


Fellow in the Creative and Performing Arts Jason Treuting, Professor of Music Composition Dan Trueman, and Janus Trio's Beth Meyers will perform as Jason Treuting and Friends at Small World Coffee at 14 Witherspoon Street in Princeton on Saturday, December 14 at 8:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

Artist's retrospective exhibition and conference at MoMA PS 1
Sunday, December 15 from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m.


In collaboration with MoMA PS 1, New York, the Program in Visual Arts will present an afternoon of lectures and a panel discussion about Mike Kelley, one of the most influential American artists of the past 40 years. The largest exhibition of the artist's work to-date, Mike Kelley is on view at MoMA PS 1 now through February 2, 2014. As part of the Sunday Sessions series at MoMA PS 1, Mike Kelley Looking Forward is a one-day conference with lectures by Elisabeth Sussman, Curator and Sondra Gilman Curator of Photography at the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; Stacy Wolf, Professor of Theater in the Lewis Center and Director of the Princeton Atelier; and John C. Welchman, Professor in the Visual Arts Department at the University of California, San Diego and Chair of the Mike Kelley Foundation for the Arts, Los Angeles. In addition, artists Rachel Harrison, William Pope. L, and Joe Scanlan, Professor and Director of the Program in Visual Arts, will comprise a panel discussion with Jenny Schlenzka, Associate Curator of Live Programming at MoMA PS 1. The event will be held from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 15 at the VW Dome at MoMA PS 1, located at 22-25 Jackson Avenue in Long Island City, New York. Tickets: FREE with a valid Princeton University ID; $10 in advance through the MoMA PS1 website; $12 the day of the event starting at noon. Showing of new performative dance works
January 8, 2014 at 5:30 p.m.


Two students from the Dance/Visual Arts fall 2013 Muscle Memory course will present Key / Frame, a showing of new performative works, on Wednesday, January 8. The performance will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the Lucas Gallery at 185 Nassau Street and is free and open to the public.

A senior thesis production directed by Tracy Bersley
January 10 & 12, 2014 at 8:00 p.m.
January 11, 2014 at 2:00 & 8:00 p.m.


From January 10 through 12, the Program in Theater will present Hedda Gabler by Henrik Ibsen, directed by faculty member Tracy Bersley and featuring senior Sean Drohan as Hedda. Drohan tackles one of theater's most complex and controversial female characters in Hedda Gabler, exploring what it means to not "fit" in one's world, one's home, or even one's body. Performances will begin at 8:00 p.m., with a matinee performance scheduled for Saturday, January 11 at 2:00 p.m. in the Marie and Edward Matthews '53 Acting Studio at 185 Nassau Street. Tickets are $12, $10 for students/seniors and will soon be available through University Ticketing.

Dance opportunity with the pioneer of Hip Hop
January 16, 2014 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.


On Thursday, January 16, the Program in Dance will present a Master Class by pioneering Hip Hop dance artist Crazy Legs. The class will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. in the Patricia and Ward Hagan '48 Dance Studio at 185 Nassau Street and is open to all Princeton students to participate and the public to observe.

Lewis Center recognized by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education


The Lewis Center's Office of Communications has earned a gold award from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) for visual design in print for the Program in Theater's 2012 Fall Show poster, designed by Tracy Patterson for Der Bourgeois Bigwig. The award will be presented at the CASE District II conference in Baltimore in February. This is one of several awards achieved this year for various communications projects at the University.

Public voting for the 6th Annual JerseyArts.com People's Choice Awards is now open! Support your favorite local nonprofit arts groups by casting your ballot for the following Princeton area arts organizations: McCarter Theatre Center, Princeton University Art Museum, Arts Council of Princeton, Princeton Symphony Orchestra, Westminster Choir, American Boychoir, Princeton Girlchoir, Princeton Pro Musica, Opera at The Princeton Festival, and American Repertory Ballet. Vote for downtown Princeton for Favorite Arts District. All votes must be cast via the online ballot at JerseyArts.com before Wednesday, January 22, 2014. Winners will be announced in early February.   


The Lewis Center for the Arts encompasses Princeton University's academic programs in creative writing, dance, theater, and visual arts, as well as the interdisciplinary Princeton Atelier. The Center represents a major initiative of the University to fully embrace the arts as an essential part of the educational experience for all who study and teach at Princeton. Over 100 diverse public performances, exhibitions, readings, screenings and lectures are offered each year, most of them free or at a nominal ticket price.
