Innovative, Multi-disciplinary 1 Day Art Festival Comes to Patchogue May 15
Arts on Terry, A Collaborative Free Event Features Visual Art Exhibitions, Performances, Live Music, Artist Demonstrations, Artists in Action and More!
PATCHOGUE, NEW YORK, MAY 2, 2016 - The Patchogue Arts Council (PAC) is excited to announce Arts on Terry, an innovative, multi-disciplinary one day collaborative event with Artspace Patchogue. This free event will consist of exhibitions by local artists groups, artisan demonstrations, street artists in action, musical performances, and spoken word. Arts on Terry will be located in the immediate vicinity of Artspace Patchogue and the Patchogue Arts Gallery on Terry Street and Taylor Lane, Patchogue, NY, on Sunday, May 15, 2016 from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

PAC was founded in 2008 by a group of artists and local citizens who wanted to create a welcoming atmosphere for the future resident artists of Artspace, which at that time was just in its planning stage. PAC President Lori Devlin, a member of the initial group that formed the organization states, "We stood at the site of the parking lot that was the future location of Artspace and puzzled over what would be a great event to begin to brand this location, Terry Street, as a place where the arts happen. At that time we imagined and began brainstorming a street fair that we named Arts on Terry. Due to logistical challenges, PAC went on instead to produce the first Patchogue Arts Biennial at Briarcliffe College."

The timing was not right in 2008 for an outdoor collaborative art event. Patchogue Village had a long way to go in its revitalization, and PAC itself had to build a reputation as a collaborator. Lori continues, "Over the years, almost every event PAC created for the community has had an aspect of collaboration. When Dave Rogers, an artist and resident of Artspace Patchogue, proposed a similar event to PAC in 2014, we felt the time was right. It only made sense to name the event what we came up with back in 2008. Co-sponsoring and co-creating Arts on Terry with Artspace Patchogue seemed like the natural progression, and we can't wait to see the results on May 15!"

Artist groups, galleries, and museums from throughout Suffolk County will participate. Unlike most art festivals, Arts on Terry has no required participation fee. Each participating group will curate its own space that will be located in one of the tents lining Terry Street and Taylor Lane. The adjacent Patchogue Garden Club Community Garden will be home to a sculpture exhibit curated by the PAC Visual Arts Committee and will remain on view through the end of June.

There will be additional activities including artist demonstrations in glass blowing, woodworking, ceramics, and blacksmithing. Street artists will be painting on large panels, artists from Artspace Patchogue will be outside painting along with the Patchogue Sketch Club, and chalk sidewalk artists will be creating in the Roe Walkway. In addition, music, poetry, and performances will take place throughout the day.

Exhibitions will also take place at both galleries located in the Artspace building. Artspace National Artists Run Exhibit, curated by Dave Rogers, features the work of artists who live and work in Artspace facilities around the nation. Objects Assembled, curated by Lisa DiStefano, is an exhibit of small ceramic sculptures. Both will be on display at the Artspace Patchogue Gallery. In addition, attendees will be able to tour the Artspace Patchogue building and see artists at work in their studios. The Patchogue Arts Gallery will present its annual juried member's exhibit, Patchworks 2016, this year curated by Executive Director Neil Watson of the Long Island Museum.

Arts on Terry is a free to the public, one day multi-disciplinary art event that will take place on Saturday, May 15, 2016 from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Located on Terry Street and Taylor Lane in Patchogue Village, the event features art exhibitions, art demonstrations, live music, performances, spoken word, and more. This event is made possible with funds from the Decentralization Program, a re-grant program of the New York State Council on the Arts, with the support of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo and the New York State Legislature, and is administered by the Huntington Arts Council, Inc. Additional support has been provided by LI Pulse Magazine and the Greater Patchogue Chamber of Commerce.
