The Village of Patchogue has issued a request for proposals (RFP) for an artist designed crosswalk to replace the one currently located in front of the Patchogue Medford Library. The goal of the project is to improve pedestrian experience and to add a public art experience to the downtown. The location of the crosswalk is a few steps from the Patchogue Theatre for the Performing Arts and a short walk from the Artspace Building on Terry St.

The design for the crosswalk must be bold and highly graphic.  Artists are welcome to include color in their submissions or they may choose to stick with the traditional white on black theme.  A stipend of $300 will be paid to the artist who designs the winning submission.

The Village of Patchogue is seeking proposals for an artist designed crosswalk to replace the one currently located in front of the Patchogue-Medford Library. The crosswalk will be composed of a durable, imprinted, aggregate reinforced pre-formed thermoplastic marking system that provides a textured, highly attractive topical treatment to the surface of asphalt pavement.

Examples of artist designed crosswalks located in the Bromo Arts District of the city of Baltimore can be found at mymodernmet.com. The dimensions for the crosswalk design area are 42'3" by 6'.  The design will then be bordered with a 12" wide white border for a final dimensional width of 8 feet.

A stipend of $300 will be paid to the artist who designs the winning submission. The Patchogue Arts Council's Visual Arts Committee will select 3 finalists to be submitted to the Patchogue Village Board for final determination. The winning submission will be announced at a Village Board meeting no later than June 11, 2015. Submissions should be sent to [email protected] with the subject line "crosswalk".
The deadline for submissions is April 30, 2015.
