BEYOND PAINTING featuring Robert Carioscia, Maureen Palmieri, Alexander Percy, Ted Stamatelos, and Felicitas Wetter
On exhibit at the Patchogue Arts Gallery 20 Terry St., Patchogue January 10 - February 21 Reception: Saturday, January 17 from 5:00-7:00 PM
Since the 1400's when painters first stretched fabric over a wood frame the favorite format for paintings has been a rectangle. In the early days of the 20th century some artists stopped seeing that rectangle as a window to look through. Illusion became allusion, RE-presentation became PRESENT-ation as artists sought to make art more real through the manipulation of materials on a rectangular surface.
The five artists in Beyond Painting each begin with a traditional rectangular format. Each one has found a personal way of building a tactile surface.

INNATE EXPRESSIONS: CAITLYN SHEA
On exhibit at the PAC Members Gallery in January 11 - February 22 Reception: Sunday, January 25 from 2:00-4:00 PM
Caitlyn Shea is fascinated by the anatomy, color, and structure of animal forms and their fleeting nature. By using acrylic paint, spray paint, and charcoal, the artist is able to express and defy the boundaries of the body. Her paintings conjure ideas of the sublime and offer a sense of joy through observing the boundless form. While colors reflect the allure of the natural world, Shea notes their underlying chaos and experimental sensibility.

SPECIAL RECEPTION PERFORMANCE
February 8 from 1:00-4:00 PM
John Cino, President of the Patchogue Arts Council and Co-Curator of Remembering Things Past, was a recipient of the 2014 Long Island Individual Creative Artist Grant for Song Wave. Song Wave incorporates recorded soundtracks that explore the recognition of coherent sound out of random noise through music, speech, and animal calls. During the reception on February 8, Song Wave will run continuous loops of selected pieces from his December 29, 2014 performance, Common Ground, including "River Voices" in which speakers in multiple languages will have their voices blended to create the sound of water flowing in a river; above the babble recognizable speech in each of the languages will be heard.
*Funding for Song Wave was made in part by a grant from the Decentralization Program, a re-grant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature and is administered by The Huntington Arts Council, Inc.
